PayUp: Save our Schools Pledge 01/02/2023

Today has seen thousands of NEU members take their first day of strike action in our ongoing campaign for a fully funded, above-inflation pay rise.

They don’t want to be out on strike. They want to be in the classroom, doing what they do best – teaching and supporting our pupils.

But they just can’t stand by and see education being destroyed by a Government that doesn’t seem to value educators or the service they provide for the nation’s children.

It's been incredible seeing the support from local councillors up and down the country. Our members are so grateful to every one of you for taking a stand to save our schools.

If ministers really want to stop our strikes, if they really do care about children’s education, then they should make the time to sit down and talk to us.

Now we need your help to make them listen -

1️⃣Sign our open letter to the chancellor - https://actionnetwork.org/forms/payup-save-our-schools-letter-to-chancellor

2️⃣Take our councillor pledge - https://actionnetwork.org/forms/payup-save-our-schools-pledge/?UA-1767876-40

3️⃣Find out why NEU members are taking industrial action - https://nationaleducationunion.foleon.com/pay-up-save-our-schools/save-our-schools-political/

PayUp: Save our Schools Pledge In July, the Government offered most teachers a pay rise of just 5 per cent – with inflation soaring, that adds up to a 7 per cent pay cut. NEU members are taking industrial action for a fully funded, above-inflation pay rise. Because pay is not keeping up with the cost of living, teachers and sup...

Losing our art teacher was the final straw: I knew I had to strike for the sake of my students | James McAsh 01/02/2023

"Teachers are on strike because the government does not respect us or our profession.

At my primary school, I’ve had a front-row seat to conditions getting worse and worse over the past few years."

Cllr James McCash on why NEU members are on strike today!

Losing our art teacher was the final straw: I knew I had to strike for the sake of my students | James McAsh Growing class sizes, unqualified staff, much-loved subjects disappearing – this government is happy to offer children the bare minimum. We teachers are not, says primary school teacher James McAsh

🚨 NEU and NASUWT call for a pause to Ofsted inspections until after the February half term. 🚨

"At this intense moment where education recovery is so vital for our nation's young people, and where Covid-19 is leading to such disruption, the return of Ofsted inspections is an unnecessary extra burden. They need to get out of the way and let schools and colleges concentrate on their essential work."
