One name studies are different from other genealogical research methods that seek to find the numerous ancestors of particular individual. Instead, one name studies concentrate on the geographical distribution of a single surname, and the changes in that distribution over the centuries. This information can be used to reconstruct the genealogy of lines bearing the surname or attempt to find a single point of origin for a surname. This one-day workshop aims to teach you the basics on how you can start to research the origins of your own surname.

These two Edwardian ladies are doing it in style. The photo was take along the Embankment just past the rowing club and the building opposite is the old Town and County Club.

The image is from a postcard dated 1907 and addressed to a Miss Jepp at 71 Dudley Street Bedford.
