Ragged Artist

He was so strong - yet so afraid.
Not of the world, or war... nor even of death.
His horrors? They shimmer atop the silvery surface of unadulterated truth.
He would sooner fight Hella herself than let any other see the scars within their waters.
Wearing a suit of armor he attempts to avoid his own reflection staring back at him under the light of the moon.
A coat of arms for this warriors heart. Eager to stand for the honour of his code.
This noble, unyielding force of will. A commanding fortress, standing precariously on a needles point.
That was, until she found him. His back turned to the pool of veracity. To her, those sheets of steel were as clear as the waters from which he hid. Seeing even the lies in which he tells himself. Her hands penetrated the cold metal he was encased in. Seeing the illusion that it was, she cupped his frightened and shaking heart and soothed it with her warmth.
Apprehensive and unsure, he turned to bear witness to that which could break through his infallible facade. Upon meeting her inquiring gaze, tears began to stream down his face. Tears that he never knew could exist. For her eyes were an ocean of purest blue, her skin a translucent porcelain as it flowed from the waters beneath. Her hair reflecting the luminous silver light from the moon.
The pool had waited so long for him to face himself that it could wait no longer. It came for him through a body so beautiful and gentle to him that he could resist no more.
And as she smiled, with his fast beating heart between the tips of her fingers, he could finally see his raw self in the love bound version of him in her eyes.
And for the first time in his life. He didn't feel like running away. It was there, with her that he knew one final truth. He would never feel frightened again.

Almost 10 years of portrait progress

I've been pushing myself harder and further recently than I ever have. Adhd diagnosis and medication has changed my life and ability to focus on developing my skill more consistently than I ever could before.

Over the last 10 years of drawing I'd draw like a maniac for a couple of months each year, get disheartened and not do any for another 10 months.

I've improved so much in 9 years, but where could I have been if I was diagnosed younger? I try not to think of the "what if's"... but it's an issue that needs addressing.

Girls with ADHD don't tend to get flagged up as easily because their behaviours are seen as "less disruptive" to their peers.
They tend to be more innatentive, the daydreamers, forgetful, super chatty.
Its usually later in life, when the pressures and expectations increase that the problems become harder to mask and compensate for.

Please, educate yourself on how ADHD and Autism present differently depending on s*x.

I've become very close to this artist. She is such a wonderful woman and the way she challenges what is comfortable, and exposes her vulnerability, she creates art that is both beautiful and thought provoking. She's definitely a strong female inspiration for me and I feel truly lucky that we have become friends.

Hi everybody!
I just want to let you all know why I haven't been posting much content recently.
I've been suffering with crippling migraines for a while now.
The dr has tried me on a medication but it doesn't seem to be helping and I've been referred for a CT scan because I have a family history of concerning brain things.
I doubt it is anything serious but they are impacting me quite badly so I really appreciate all of your love and support 💜

ALL bodies are beautiful!

So I've had this painting concept in my head for a while now. But I still get a lot of anxiety approaching physical paintings. But I feel this ball of emotion in my heart that I know I need to get out on canvas with this.
Does anybody have any tips for overcoming this mental barrier?

Free Art Ni***es!
I'm getting a bit frustrated that my art not being able to be shared anywhere. I can't use promotion options either. I've always backed the general "Free the Ni**le campaign" because let's face it, ni***es are not inherently s*xual and men aren't censored the same way.
But this is art. They alow old Greek paintings with naked people. Why aren't my pieces allowed? It's not erotic artwork. It's artwork centered around diversity and representing real bodies.
It's OK when big companies use s*x to sell, but I can't represent a female body to help people with their self image? Which is more harmful here?

I want to highlight the diversity, uniquity and beauty in all of us. Because each one of us is a wonderful soul. Indivually perfectly imperfect.

I have lived a hard life. A lot of childhood trauma, neglect and abuse. The cycle continued until I was 22 and finally found the strength to demand respect and human decency from the people in my life.

Because of this I have had terrible self image, self esteem and have fought eating disorders since my early adolescence.

I sketched myself naked as a study and the idea came to me. I wanted to offer people the chance to become a work of art. To help them see themselves through the eye off the beholder. I offered this for free and was overwhelmed by the response I received.

The comments and feedback I've gotten off people about how this project has changed their lives and outlook has bought me to tears on multiple occasions. It's helping me tackle my own self image issues.

I had to temporarily close submissions but I am still looking to represent some more minority groups so if you feel you may fall into this, then please get in contact.
Otherwise I also so commisions ☺

Hi! Let me introduce myself!

My Name is Jozilea (RaggedArtist)

I am 25 years old and have been drawing for a decade.
I've never had any luck in gaining any audience or custom but I love what I do.

I have a few health conditions, but the one that is relevant here is a history of eating disorders and body dysmophia.
I got to talking to a fellow artist (photographer) on Instagram who does a lot of body positive self photography that means a lot to me, and I drew one of her photos.

So I got inspired to draw myself. My raw self. Scars. Stretchmarks. Loose skin. Imperfections.
I used this to reach out to others, seeing if they could be brave too and show the world that we are all beautiful.

I have now had maybe 60 submissions and have named my series "Beautiful You".
