Community football coaching But football is also much more than just a game enjoyed across the world.

Aqsa United FC is a community-led project which uses the universal power of football to tackle political, social and cultural issues across the globe. We believe that prejudice and discrimination are born from a lack of understanding and experience, and the best way to overcome this is through the use of shared cultural mediums. Football can be said to be the most powerful cultural medium of them

all, a truly global language which is spoken throughout the world.

We also believe that education is the key to unlocking potential, and this is true for citizens all over the world. In our global community, the need for cross-cultural dialogue and exchange has never been more apparent, and a decade after the UN’s Global Development Compact, it is once again time to examine and build global ties amongst the world’s future leaders. Football, the world’s global game, is capable as a passion, an experience and a language to transcend socio-cultural boundaries and act as a shared medium through which to achieve dialogue and understanding. It is also a unifying tool, a political force in itself and a powerful medium for engendering friendship, understanding, identity, development, education and social responsibility – on a local, national, and global level.

Through our projects, we aim to engage with students and communities from across the globe, using football as a medium for cultural understanding and experiential exchange, whilst also putting education back at the top of the agenda, and emphasising the plurality of the issues currently facing the global community. Educate through football hardships faced by children in developing countries including children living in conflict zones. Aqsa United are very proud to announce it's partnership with Palestine Sports for Life (PS4L), a Palestine based organisation, providing services to the young children in sports. Aqsa United Football Club have achieved FA Charter Standard Status. According to the FA “The Charter Standard Scheme is best practice guide that sets standards of coaching, administration and child protection for all clubs outside the Football League and Premier League. As a benchmark for quality, it will improve the playing experience for all.”

**Palestine Sports for Life (PS4L)**

PS4L is a Palestine based organisation established in 2010
by a group of athletes on a mission to support the development
of Palestinian sports at all levels.

“We provide a range of services to support our mission including facilitating or conducting education, training programs and sports schools, community sports programs, supporting elite athlete development and other research and activities. We hope that the partnership with Aqsa United will allow us to build exchange programs for the coaches and young athletes, where they get to experience a foreign culture first hand, make new international friends and keep in touch, sharing their thoughts on the game they love. In the short two years since PS4L began, we have faced several obstacles but this has just made us stronger and more resolute. Our major achievements include partnering with Rise Global organization in Australia who give us strategic technical advice. We also became members in the international camping fellowship. We also help facilitate basketball coaches’ clinics in Palestine and have taken 28 coaches representing 13 clubs to the international basketball clinic run by Ganon Baker in Amman, Jordan. Other work within schools and the community is taking place, however, the lack of adequate facilities are constraining us. Despite the difficulties, we look forward to having our new friends from Aqsa United here. Tamara Awartani Masri (General Director)

Walsall Outreach are holding a Food and Bake Sale this Saturday 16th November (tomorrow). It will be held at the old Palfrey Community Centre between 12pm-4pm. Entry is via Dale Street and plenty of parking is available on the day.

Walsall Outreach provide a service to the homeless and most vulnerable within Walsall and all proceeds will go towards providing a hot meal and vital essentials to those that most need it.

On the day we will have plenty of food and cakes available to purchase. All proceeds will go towards this amazing cause. Please join us this Saturday and help to assist the most vulnerable this winter.

Pearl Fish Bar in Palfrey got the Mayor’s seal of approval recently after he visited to taste the food first hand and present the business with a special Gold Switch award. The council Health Switch programme helps takeaways explore low cost options, which are healthy for customers and good for their business.
Councillor Marco Longhi, Mayor of Walsall and Mayoress Andrea Longhi presented owner Shamim Ahmed and his team with a Gold Award for their commitment to developing a healthier shop menu, which is now lower on salt and oil, but still high on taste.

Pearl Fish Bar which was established in 1989 also gained praise from Council environmental health officers for its impeccable cleanliness record. The spotless business is rated a ‘5’ the highest score on the food hygiene scale and classed as ‘very good.’

Walsall Mayor, Cllr Marco Longhi said: ““Fish and Chips are a main food that the UK is world renowned for. However, Pearl Fish Bar have taken a welcome step towards a healthier version of this popular classic for adults and children alike. This is a very positive step, particularly as there is a high incidence of obesity in Walsall in both young and older people. Having sampled the food myself I can highly recommend it. Well done to all!”

By introducing a range of healthier alternatives, the business made simple changes to popular dishes that made a big difference. Pizza with 50% lower fat cheese, lighter fish and chips, grilled fish and meat options like chicken tikka and salad served up in a wholemeal pitta are a healthier alternative to traditional kebabs and taste great.

Owner, Shamim said: “We pride ourselves on always serving high quality freshly prepared food daily. We recognise as a business that we can play a part in improving our customers overall diet by offering these healthier alternatives. Small changes at no extra cost have meant the new lighter menu is are already very popular.”
