Ha! Note to self.... don't sew at dusk, listen to your machine sounds and don't sew after a few glasses of wine! I have just managed to happily sew down the centre of a separating zip.....through the teeth! I give up. Knitting from now on. The new dressing gown is not going to be finished today. Hic!
A quilt donated to raise funds fir a local hospice.
My new sewing bag.
Lots of machine embroidery for Christmas napkins.
A gift for a very dear friend.
Small needle case for dear friend...
Sooo, things sewn for friends and family can now be shared.....
Not a huge amount of sewing but these little gems are destined for a local hospice Christmas fair..... Terry's chocolate orange covers....
I am unwinding after a 'full-on' weekend teaching/ advising on pattern fitting issues in Aarhus, Denmark. I have been made so very welcome, particularly after a gap of four and a half years, due to Covid etc. I still can't speak Danish but everyone is so kind it doesnโt matter.
I was so tickled today... a friend brought me some mini Skippers' Liquorice pipes because she knew I liked them! That's what friendship is about...
How quickly a weekend can disappear! We started at 3pm on Friday and everyone has now gone home. We have fitted Chanel-style jackets, trousers, dresses, t-shirts....etc. we have had a lovely group of 9 ladies in Aarhus, Denmark and are hoping to meet again in Copenhagen/Roskilde in January. Well done everyone.
Woo-hoo! Off to Denmark soon (Aarhus) for the first time in four years. Such a lot has changed, nationally, politically and personally. Can't wait.
Woo hoo! Back Aarhus in September for another Sewfest. A weekend of fitting and sewing using the tissue fitting system . I have missed my Danish friends who are such accomplished needlewomen.
Somewhat incommunicado recently for an assortment of reasons. Hopefully back in harness next week. Currently enjoying a well-deserved break camping in the Lakes.

Have you ever wondered why embroidery scissors are shaped like storks? Well, these scissors didn't actually start out as scissors, but as umbilical clamps. Sometimes, the clamps would be used with a set of forceps shaped like snakes. Why snakes? To symbolise the Rod of Asclepius, the Greek god of healing and medicine.
Between the 19th century and now, these little stork scissors have gone through some really big changes. In the past, most of them were between four and a half to six inches long, with their heads mounted at almost a 45-degree angle. The beaks were heavy clamps not meant to cut, but to restrict the blood flow before the umbilical was cut. Some even had little babies hidden inside the stork's beak that would appear when the clamps were opened.
The midwives began to use the scissors for needlework that they carried with them to work on during long waiting times when babies were being born.
Who knew these scissors had such a long history that started with delivering babies? The Smithsonian has a medical bag on display with a pair of stork scissors, in their American History Collection.

I'm definitely a NESTY PIG with many PHDs ๐๐
So, another lovely Sunday of sewing with like-minded individuals. A few Sewing machine/ overlocker issues sorted out, together with assorted fitting questions. Such a lovely day in Cotebrook.
Thank goodness for vaccines and boosters and tests, which have allowed 4 of us to meet up today for a small group fitting session, Wait, did I say fitting? I should have said: nattering, drinking tea, eating wonderful bread, soup and quiche, sharing sewing and shopping stories. What a lovely day. Thank you for hosting us Sabra.
I want to give a huge shout-out to in Devon. Two and a half years ago I invested in a combination of cupboards, sewing table and Watersmeet unit, which I love. Unfortunately while folding things away for Christmas, I managed to destroy one of the hinges in a drop-down table. Fast forward to this week: on Monday I emailed them with photos. Yesterday afternoon I received a complete new table top, upright and hinges, free of charge. Now that is what I call excellent customer service. I love my units and would highly recommend them. I just have too much stuff to fit in! Story of a crafter's life!
Chocolate orange covers and a fabric iron pin cushion.
Knitted wine bottle covers.
A belated but very Happy New Year to all. I was rather engrossed throughout November and December making Christmas presents so very little personal dressmaking was attempted. I have started the year with catching up on PhDs (projects half done) and I am currently sewing together 2176 x 2.5" squares to make a set of curtains. I will attempt to put up photos once everyone has received their gifts.
On a separate note, sad to say but I am no longer teaching at Abakhan in Mostyn and Liverpool. Lots of changes have taken place during the pandemic and i have decided to take a lot more time for myself. However, I am still offering private lessons and small group gatherings, Covid permitting. Do get in touch if you have any questions. If you get weird messages from the Sew-fundamental email, try [email protected]. Happy sewing everyone!
Sewing Bee!!!!!
Well, I am staggered... courtesy of phone photos and diary notes..... I have actually managed to sew just a little over 52 items in the last year..... photos after they have been delivered. Xx

A bit cold in the conservatory, aka my sewing room. I am currently trying to sew together over 900 2.5" squares to make whacky curtains for youngest GS. Wish me luck!
