Copying is the greatest form of flattery. Or is it ?

We’ve all done it…

We see a “must have outfit” on someone; whether it be a slinky fitted dress on HRH Princess of Wales, maybe a jumpsuit on our favourite Celebrity, an insta haul try on video by an influencer or even some thing a friend has bought. It looks amazing on them so we want to look amazing too!

The outfit suddenly becomes the focus of our desire; we stalk the internet and hunt it down. The delight we feel when we manage to get our hands on it is pure joy.

It arrives, excited, we try it on and it doesn’t look quite the same on us, there’s something not right but we don’t know what. 🤔

This should be the time to return it but no, it hangs in the wardrobe with the tags still attached.
Every time we try to wear it, we take it off again, it looks wrong and we don’t know why. 🤔

It could be a few different reasons;
1. The colour doesn’t suit our skin tone
2. The cut isn’t flattering on our body shape
3. We are not the same shape/height/colouring as the person we saw wearing it.

The answer is;
We loved how it looked on “THEM”

Knowing your body shape and the best tricks to flatter it is KEY and will change the way you dress and the way you shop.

The photo of me looking dreadful in a trouser suit I bought after seeing it on someone else several years ago is proof enough.
The cut. I don’t suit double breasted styles, I have broad shoulders and favour a single breasted cut. The colour, ice pink is all wrong for my skin tone too; it’s cool and pale and I suit warm and bright. I have since sold this suit on .

CONFIDENCE…

This song popped into my head and it got me thinking. Not about kissing, but about CONFIDENCE!

It’s a word that comes up regularly when I’m out and about. People say things like “I wish I had your CONFIDENCE “ or “I wish I had the CONFIDENCE to wear more colour”

My answer is you can and you can grow your CONFIDENCE by dressing for yourself and wearing colours that enhance your complexion and styles that flatter your body.

When you look good, you feel good and when you feel good you smile. People will compliment on how great you look and it will make you feel even better! Growing your CONFIDENCE….

A lovely testimonial from Natalie, who came to see me yesterday after winning a colour analysis experience I donated for the charity ball we both attended last year.

When Natalie arrived; without makeup, as requested, the first thing I noticed were her eyes, which at first appeared green, but on closer inspection were actually blue with lots of golden whorls. Very striking! Now it was time to play colour 🌈 detective…. 🔎

I always start with the red drapes, followed by yellow, pink, green etc. Sometimes it’s easy to decipher which season a client is going to favour, sometimes it’s a bit more challenging when two drapes of the same colour seem to look good.

From the start it was fairly obvious that Natalie suited and looked gorgeous in the warm, bright, clear, spring colours. Lime green & lilac looked spectacular on her and as a lover of leopard print, tanned beige and gingerbread were pretty high up the list too.

Finally we had a little look at which colours looked good with each other for future reference and experimenting.

It’s always an uplifting experience for me when I drape someone, hopefully they feel uplifted too when they see how fabulous they look in their true colours.

A few outfits I’ve worn recently including a couple of wedding outfits.

Yes it’s nice to get dressed up for a special occasion but I don’t believe in saving things for “best”. I dress according to my mood and find it difficult to plan outfits in advance. I like to have choice and feel inspired when I’m choosing what to wear. Sometimes I design and make my own clothes too.

I’m a great lover of leopard and other prints and I love to mix different colours and prints together, sometimes in an unexpected way.
I also love vintage and preloved pieces as often they are unique and they help me to create my own individual style.

Sometimes it’s nice to follow trends but generally I don’t want to wear the same thing everyone else is wearing. I believe your style should reflect your personality and say something about you without you having to say anything.
It’s good to experiment with different looks, to reflect your mood or brighten up your day.

I saw the blue & white one on a few weeks ago and couldn’t resist. I ordered these just before my holiday and they have arrived just in time for my next trip to Mallorca. The sizing range is good ( includes plus size ) and there is lots of choice. If you like something a bit different then take a look.

The one shoulder suit in the 3rd picture is from and is reversible. There is a brown & turquoise print on the inside. Here I’ve added a flower corsage to the turquoise side and a sarong scarf ( about 20 years old from Avon ) to create a different look.

Packing now and looking forward to the next few days

I saw this fabulous top on insta last week and literally stalked her account until she listed it. I bought it within minutes of her listing it. I was like a 🐈 on hot bricks waiting for it to arrive ( which it did really quickly) and it didn’t disappoint. It was originally from &M and it’s totally giving vibes. I love the puffball sleeves and peplum waist and if there was ever a top with my name on it then this is it!

Hello flower 🌸

I love to wear a corsage and I have a few pin on ones in various different colours. I sometimes wear several at once for more impact.

As flowers are a big trend this season I decided to make a super sized one with some left over fabric from another project.

I’m quite happy with how it’s turned out. Just need to finish it off and add a very large brooch pin at the back so I can wear it 😁

Leopard with pink anyone ?

I made this leopard print dress about 10 years ago and rediscovered it this morning hiding in my wardrobe. It was too small the last time I tried it on so I am happy that I can wear it again this year.

It got me thinking about how I could reinvent how I’d wear it now. My current obsession is leopard with pink so that was the obvious choice.

I found a few other animal print with pink looks I can wear too.

Who’s ready for Spring?

I know I am even if the weather can’t make its mind up.
I had a little shopping trip with a client/friend today she was looking for a couple of items and I was more than happy to help her find them.

I ignored the rain this morning and abandoned my raincoat in favour of my striped blazer as we were going to be mostly indoors.

I came home inspired by the spring colours in the shops and took the opportunity to style a couple of recent finds - a pleated striped 🌈🌈🌈skirt, a rose tulle skirt worn as a top, an “inside out” black jacket I’ve never worn and was going to get rid of (until I noticed how beautiful the lining was). A new lime green sleeveless blouse from . My sweetie tshirt from . Everything else was shopped from my wardrobe 😉

The sun is supposed to be making an appearance this weekend so I might even get to wear some of these looks soon 🤞

Friends for life in style

While visiting my mum this week, I took the opportunity to catch up with my best friend We first met when our families were neighbours and our mums became friends when we were toddlers.
We’ve been through many life events together and are always there for each other. 💕

As children growing up we would sometimes have the same style of school shoes or maybe our mums would dress us similarly. But as we’ve matured our own styles have evolved; we might still have the same style of handbag, albeit in a different colour, but now we style it in our own way which reflects own different style personalities.

Style is a personal thing. If you feel good in what you’re wearing it reflects in your body language. You’ll feel more confident and happy. If you’re happy you smile and people will smile back. It’s contagious, in a good way 😁

He has great a range of T-shirts all designed by him.

As soon as I saw this one I knew it was for me . Given that I don’t generally wear T-shirts that’s quite a statement!

I’ve added some shoulder pads and slightly turned back the sleeve to give me more shape. I think it was the perfect statement for the outfit I was wearing today.

International Women’s Day

WOW! What can I say…

An inspiring, empowering, colourful and entertaining day celebrating International Women’s Day. A fabulous event hosted by the dynamic duo and
They both ooze charisma and it’s easy to see why they have become friends having met at an event two years ago.
Together they presented their first event and I’m delighted that I was able to attend along with my lovely friend Dawn, .

I met a fabulous group of women each with their own stories to tell.
My vintage coat sparked lots of compliments and conversations. I chatted with other creative women with whom collaborations might be possible. I felt like I’d definitely got the pink memo as both Laura and Siobhan were dressed in pink too🩷

Stunning Sara is a sensational summer.

Sara who came to see me for colour analysis recently, like many of us likes to wear black - which does look very striking against her gorgeous blonde hair. However, as her complexion is naturally very pale, black isn’t her best option when it’s next to her face.

I never tell anyone they can’t wear a particular colour; I will show them a better option or suggest ways that they can wear it by mixing it with other more flattering shades next to their face.

Sara really glows in the summer palette of colours, the soft, more muted shades subtly highlight her skin tone, diminish and lines and shadows and her lips have a rosebud glow.

What’s your personal style?

It can take years of trial and error to find what makes you look and feel your best.

For me it’s definitely something that’s evolved over time and will continue to evolve as I’m always keen to experiment with different looks and styles.
I’d describe my look mostly as creative, sometimes dramatic, I occasionally even have a romantic twist too.

I love texture and print and I much prefer shopping in person to shopping online. I like things that feel nice to touch; sequins, suede, leather, faux fur, feather, silk, cashmere,cotton…
I like embellishments, whether it be a piece of statement jewellery, a scarf, a corsage or brooch even badges. Something that makes an individual statement.

Style isn’t about always wearing the latest trends either. If a trend appeals to me and fits in with elements of my personal style I might consider buying into it if I think it’s something I’d wear often. I do like to try and create a trend look using clothes I already own first.

Experiment, experiment, experiment!

I’ve always been a visual person and am very enthusiastic about things that appeal to me. It could be a colour or print. I create mood boards of things I’m attracted to for inspiration and to remind me when I’m thinking about putting outfits together.

I will also photograph an outfit I’ve put together if I love it and then save it in a separate file for future reference if I need inspiration.

At the end of the day finding your own style is about discovering what makes us feel good rather than what fashion dictates we should be wearing.

Knowing your personal style is key to helping you get dressed every day. When you understand what makes you feel like you I can only describe it as revelationary!

Not new but new to me ….

I’ve recently bought and sold a few things on

I always think it’s a great way to experiment with different looks and ideas without spending a fortune.

As you may have seen, I recently did a post on the mob wife trend involving items I already own styled in different ways. I then started thinking how the trend might evolve for spring and here is what I came up with…
