Until October 26, 2024, Copenhagen Outsider Art Gallery showcases Bolette Liljeroth Lund's interdisciplinary art, where she explores the language of femininity through textiles. Her work reinterprets traditional 'women's' crafts, using recycled materials like French embroidery yarn and hospital textiles. Inspired by her grandmother's floral motifs, Bolette's creations challenge romanticised images of women while paying tribute to the tactile experience. The dynamic blend of textures and contrasting materials invites viewers to see femininity in a new light.

From September 6 to October 26, 2024, Western Exhibitions in Chicago presents Catherine Whited's first solo show, "Great!". In this exhibit, Whited transforms mundane items into revered icons through her charming, deadpan drawings. Inspired by everyday life, her work captures household objects, food, and more, combining image and text in a style reminiscent of Victorian-era scientific journals. Whited is a studio resident at Visionaries and Voices, a non-profit supporting artists with disabilities.

From September 12 – November 2, 2024, Librairie Galerie Métamorphoses in Paris presents Fleury Joseph Crépin, "Conjuring War, Painting Peace", featuring more than 30 paintings by Crépin (1875-1948), a plumber, zinc worker, ironmonger, musician, dowser and healer from Pas-de-Calais. His painted work: meticulous, mediumistic, magnetic, and vibrant drew the attention of André Breton (who exhibited it at l’Étoile scellée gallery), but also of Jean Dubuffet, Patrick Waldberg, Nicolas Schöffer and Anatole Jakovsky, among others.

This is the first time that this collection, which has remained in private hands since its acquisition over half a century ago from the artist's daughter, will be exhibited and sold.

From September 4 – 29, 2024, at Halle Saint Pierre in Paris, the exhibition "Enlumineuses d’Ailleurs," celebrating the centenary of surrealism, showcases the works of Séverine Gallardo and Evelyne Postic. Gallardo’s monumental ornaments connect humans to the cosmos, while Postic transforms ancient maps into hallucinatory landscapes. Together, their detailed creations reimagine old materials, inviting viewers to contemplate space through a renewed and poetic lens.

From September 6 – October 19, 2024, Andrew Edlin Gallery in New York presents "Light Bulb, Socket, Outlet, Fan", its third solo exhibition of works by California-based artist Dan Miller (b. 1961). A thirty-two-year veteran of Oakland’s Creative Growth Art Center, the pioneering non-profit serving artists with disabilities, Miller has exhibited his work widely, initially within the Outsider Art community and subsequently at major institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, New York (Glossolalia, 2008), the Venice Biennale (Viva Arte Viva, 2017), and currently SFMOMA (Creative Growth: The House that Art Built, 2024).

Diagnosed with autism, Miller is mostly nonverbal. He works ambidextrously with intense, frenetic concentration, obsessively layering words or phrases until their legibility is obliterated. In the period leading up to Venice (2017), Miller began to create on a larger, and in some cases, monumental scale.

This exhibition features a slew of recent large-scale acrylic and ink works on paper, highlighted by an imposing horizontal piece from 2022 measuring over thirteen feet in length. A painted navy blue and black background is punctuated by slashing yellow lines and scrawled, readable words like “fan” and “socket.” As is overwhelmingly the case with Miller’s work, most of his imagery is indecipherable, however, in several mid-sized compositions, he repeatedly renders the identifiable outline of a light bulb.

The 53rd Kentuck Festival of the Arts is October 19-20, 2024 at Snow Hinton Park in Tuscaloosa, Alabama! The Kentuck Festival of the Arts has a 53-year history as a hub of creativity, nationally recognized for its quality, diversity, and celebration of artistic styles ranging from folk to contemporary arts and traditional crafts. The two-day festival has its roots in folk art and features 270+ artists, live music, spoken word, activities for children, folk and contemporary craft demonstrations, food trucks, and local craft brews.

Until August 31, 2024, Outsiders and Others (Vancouver, BC) presents The Many Faces of Time: Part Deux, a group exhibition of six artists, each connecting to the concept of time in their own unique way. The artworks in this exhibition convey multiple facets of time through reflections of both self and society, aspects of personal experience, and the literal depiction of time passing.

This exhibition is being presented in partnership with Professional Artistic Growth Made Accessible, with support from VCH’s Consumer Initiative Fund. PAGMA offers professional development opportunities to artists with lived experience of mental health issues and/or substance use issues.
