New art exhibition celebrates Wiltshire’s historic woodlands A new art exhibition that celebrates Wiltshire’s historic woodlands has opened in Devizes.

Wanderlust: Wiltshire, Cornwall and Beyond, a new exhibition by Hilary Stock, opens on Thursday 28 September at the White Chalk Gallery, Old Swan Yard, in Devizes.
Please email [email protected] if you would like to attend the private view from 6-8pm on Thursday. The show runs until 21 October 2023.

Hilary is honoured to be spending time this autumn in the beautiful Horatio's Garden in Salisbury as photographer-in-residence. This charity provides havens of peace and sanctuary for those in spinal injury clinics at five hospitals around the country, with another two underway. Each garden offers space for privacy, sunshine and contemplation for everyone involved – an enriching experience and a journey for all!

A selection of new works will be on show at Hilary Stock's forthcoming exhibition at The Fisherman's Shelter on the quayside in Portscatho, Cornwall. Arranged by The Harbour Gallery, the private view is at 6pm on Friday 23 July and the show runs through to Sunday 25 July. Open daily from 11am to 4pm.

Hilary says: "As a child, I feared that I would somehow be sucked into the grip of slimy, clingy seaweed on the water’s edge, so it was never my favourite thing. Little could I have imagined that one day I would have a daughter who so loves seaweed that she wrote her degree dissertation about it, and that I would subsequently fall in love with this much underrated algae. I have had to shrug off past mythological stories like the 18th century disappearance of a ship’s crew in the Sargasso Sea, blamed on the grabbing seaweed, and the scary seaweed-haired Sea Bucca of the 19th century. Instead, l have learnt to love it. Dare to explore and there’s a whole underwater paradise below the waves, offering endless colours and mesmerising shapes. Seaweed has so many uses already, but if my daughter has anything to do with it, it will save the world too!"
