Benefits for Adults
Most people associate karate lessons with kids and teens. However, there are plenty of karate classes for adults. Your only restrictions are the ones you give yourself. Anyone who wants to learn can!

Training a fun way to develop and maintain physical fitness. ... Martial arts lessons offer adults a way to challenge their strength, cardio, balance, flexibility, and agility – which are all key components of physical fitness – in a fun and non-judgemental atmosphere.
You are never too old for karate lessons. There is no age limit, and there is actually very little physical restriction as well. In fact, karate lessons can actually help you improve and overcome some perceived boundaries set by either your age or your physical state.
Recent studies have shown that martial arts can enhance attention, resilience, and motor reaction.

The relaxing of the majority of Covid restrictions doesn’t mean that Covid has gone away and indeed numbers of cases are still on the rise.
At Woking Karate Club we endeavour to create a safe environment for you or your child to train in. For this reason whilst the way that we train may now be a little more relaxed for the moment we will be keeping in place the procedures that we have been following throughout the Pandemic.
For our Juniors this means that we will still be asking parents to wear masks and parents will not be allowed to stay in the hall to watch. However on Monday nights you will be able to watch children in the Main Hall from the balcony but for those training on a Wednesday night we will still be asking parents to leave once they have registered their child.
Although we plan to relax our training a little and incorporate some safe partner work, we respectfully ask our Senior members to continue to wear masks when not training and sanitise hands.
Please look at our website for more information about us.

We are excited to be planning a return to classes at Woking Leisure Centre. Our children’s classes are hoping to return on April 12th & adults classes on May 17th BUT numbers may still be limited so we may not be able to accommodate new starters in our children’s classes until June.

With the recent publishing of the Government road map we are very hopeful that we now have a route back to normal life and a return, albeit in stages, to training again in person. And with the proposed easing of restrictions we will be looking to open new classes. Virtual training has been great and a different experience but there is nothing like the real thing!

06/11/2020

With the latest government lockdown sadly we have had to shut down our classes at the leisure centre for 4 weeks. However we have reinstated our Zoom classes and having contacted our regular members we have had a good take up, which we are pleased to see.
If you would like to join a junior or senior Zoom class please send us an email.
Hopefully we will be back to normal classes in December, in the meantime Stay Safe

24/09/2020

We are pleased at how well the classes are running whilst still maintaining the Covid regulations. As you can see from our photo, our social distancing rules are working extremely well and indeed we have a waiting list for our Junior classes.
Hopefully we can maintain the classes and perhaps in the not too distant future things will start to get a little more like normal.

It’s great to be back training at the Leisure Centre again. After all these years I still get excited to be training with people and there is always something to learn in both teaching and in practice.
In addition the current situation has given me an opportunity to be in the best shape of my life.
We plan to be starting Mondays lessons at the Leisure Centre in September along with the Wednesday lessons currently in place and we are now accepting new members.

12/07/2020

As you have no doubt heard leisure facilities are being allowed to re-open from 25 July and therefore we anticipate being able to return to our karate classes at Woking Leisure Centre in August.

During August our plan, subject to change, is to hold lessons on a Wednesday only at the Leisure Centre starting on 5th August and retain our online lessons for Mondays and Fridays. We anticipate a return to our original weekly lessons from September.

03/06/2020

So here we are in June and we have experienced another great step forward in our online lessons. Last week we held a successful online grading for our more junior grades with all children, who took part, achieving a pass. So well done to all.

During June we will be continuing with various challenges for our Little Warriors to win.

If you would like to join our Senior or Junior classes please let us know.

I really can't believe that we are already into the seventh week of lockdown; it has gone so quickly!

The longer lock-down has however encouraged more people to join in our junior and senior online karate lessons. Last week we held our first Little Warriors competition and nine children won a place in the three classes and received their certificates. (Sorry Mr Postman for the extra work, we do appreciate the work you guys and girls are doing). Please send us an email if you want further details [email protected]

Woking Karate Club has been an established and popular club for quite a few years. Woking Karate Club (part of the Tora clubs) started as the Lion Works Karate club with chief instructor Michael Say. In 1976, I (Sensei Fil) took over while still a 1st Kyu and in 1981 it became Woking Karate Club, the club which we still know and love today.

Here are a few photos from that time. If there are any members from the old days of the Lion Works Karate club or the early WKC we would love to see your favourite photo.
This is my very first week of training and the certificate to go with! Here, I am doing kumite with the late Sensei Michael Say .

Well, we have just finished our week’s trial of online karate lessons for both the Juniors and the seniors and all were well attended and judging by the feedback very well received. From next Monday for the month of April we will be running them every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 4.30 pm for the juniors and 6 pm for the Seniors. Email me an on [email protected] if you want more details.

I have also trailed circuit training sessions and they too have gone down well. So if any adults would like to join these, send me an email using the address above.

31/03/2020

Hope you are all keeping well and surviving whichever situation you're in.

Yesterday we ran our first trial karate sessions using Zoom. We had in the region of 30 taking part across the two sessions and judging by the feedback they went very well. A big thank you to all who took part.

These sessions will be running Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays from next week and if anyone else is now interested in joining please email me and we will send you more information.👊

In a little while I hope to be posting some exercises on Facebook for you and it’s my intention to follow these with videos on YouTube
