Customisation, etching and installation of lightsabers
What should I do with this then?
Took a break from all the painting to have a play with some raw metal finishes ๐ฌ
This yearโs Christmas project was a special Ignition Saber Co. Mercury for The Saber Museum.
The theme is a black and gold oriental dragon one - just in time for Chinese New Year- which this year, is the year of the Dragon.
Traditionally, Dragons chase the Pearl of Wisdom and they are symbolic of Wisdom, Spiritual
Power and general good fortune.
The design here shows five Dragons, chasing five pearls.
The minor pearls are 5mm cabachon Moonstones, set in Stirling Silver mounts all then inset within polished brass discs.
The main pearl, soon to be captured by the two front dragons, is presented as a stunning Noah Drew marble - both the brass chamber and grip have been cut through to display the pearl in all its glory. (A few tense moments doing this as I only have hand tools and the grip needed to line up perfectly with the centre of the chamber!) The chamber was then cut in a circular shape to match. The grip opening is again bordered and finished with silver and brass.
As a special addition, a unique custom shroud was created in the shape of a sixth leaping Dragon - etched and finished with a hand applied hammered texture to provide a shining contrast.
The grip was (I make life hard for myself) deliberately etched with a very (very) shallow etch - usually depth is sought after but I wanted this to feel like a traditional eastern piece and be smooth to the touch - the paint was, well, โfunโ to apply to such a shallow etch and has been buffed to a satin finish and weathered slightly to provide the look and feel of something thatโs been around for a long time.
The dragons are tinted with gold leaf wax - again, not meant to be perfect but to hopefully, again, offer the appearance of an older piece.
The install uses T.Jโs polished brass chamber and has been fitted with Proffie 3.9 and a Shtok V3 emitter PCB
This was a great and hopefully unique saber to work on and I look forward to seeing it again at New Year

Dragon pearl incoming ๐
Some (very) careful cutting needed to get this right. New commission piece came to life today ๐
8mm polished brass discs with 5mm Stirling silver cups. Put these little fellows together but whyโฆ? ๐
If Iโm honest, 2023 has been a difficult year for me so Iโm counting the days until I can start a new one ๐
Despite having some time out in the spring and moving all my equipment into a new premises in the next town to where I live, Iโve still managed to get a fair amount done ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Iโd like to thank those who have supported me this year with their kind words and work opportunities and wish everyone in the community a very happy and peaceful Christmas and a healthy and prosperous new year.
Hereโs my collection of everything Iโve done this year- from the smallest lightsaber shroud in the world, via three sabers that found their way into the hands of Post Malone and Tenacious D, to some seriously cool undead characters and Haida tribes totem pole to a mind bending and eye straining run of 11 complicated etches for The Saber Armory. Not too bad for a tough year I reckon ๐
Next will hopefully see a continued progression into new things and more exciting projects .
Happy Christmas ๐

Got around to finishing up my DV6 Master chassis from GOTH 3Designs. Itโs not often I get to work on my own stuff these days but this was worth the wait!! ๐
A few kind customers have told me that this one is maybe the most intricate and beautiful etch theyโve seen - Iโm not sure about that but it is probably one of my best ๐
It also remains an honour to see them for sale over at KR Sabers / The Saber Armory, where I believe there are a few left ๐

Finished up my latest commission for Patrick today - a La Forge De Dagobah N1 hilt etched and painted in a style influenced by the artistic imagery of the Northwest indigenous tribes.
Because this unique art style is usually presented as carved totems or buildings, I didnโt want to use an inverted etch or an outlined image and simply use colour fill. I wanted the coloured animals to sit proud of the surface and therefore opted to paint the un-etched upper parts of the design. Given the level of detail, this was a bit of a marathon - taking three full days with the smallest brush I could buy! ๐
I then got brave and weathered it all down a little to add an element of age and roughness, in keeping with the traditionally carved pieces that inspired the customerโs choice.
All in an all, a nice unique piece that was great fun to work on.
I hope you like it Patrick

Another work in progress to share - my personal take on the Mortis iconography ๐
More shiny!!!!
Check out KR Sabers sales post of my recently completed Shrouded Paradox run - this was a real labour of love and the end results are pretty cool ๐
Many thanks to Khal for the opportunity to supply these ๐
Last set of shiny photos of the Dragonborne with its master chassis before it heads to a new home.
Really enjoyed this one, especially with the traditional etch style and the high detail level.

The Yin / Yang Ignition Saber Co. Mercury pair finally got installed with a set of Rodium chambers and Proffie V3 for The Saber Museum ๐
(Better late than never I reckon ๐คทโโ๏ธ)
Nice close up of the emitter detail and the hand finished hammered effect I created for the Dragonborne Flagship ๐

Was a ShinyThing day today ๐
Shrouded Paradox V1 and V2 paired up.
V2 uses the new brass shrouds and is a real beauty ๐
Still got a limited number of these cool little Mando pendants left. Brass and Aluminium. Hand made and acid etched. ยฃ30 plus postage and fees ๐
When working through the recent Dragonborne commission, I couldnโt settle on my preferred design for the shrouds so I did both options - I do this sometimes ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Hereโs the alternative version and it turns out that both options will now be going to the customer ๐
โShrouded Paradoxโ V2 coming soon. This one is a beauty ๐
Quite a lot on the โwork in progressโ list at the moment ๐ณ๐
