New client meeting this afternoon. A couple who had received a letter from HMRC about undisclosed income from property. Turns out this couple have been renting property for 16 years. Due to busy lives they had genuinely overlooked reporting it. They now have the fun job of trawling back through bank statements to find out all the rental income and expenses for all those 16 years. They will then be faced with a nice tax bill and potentially hefty penalties. Fortunately appointing me as their agent, I will be able to help them reduce the tax burden and mitigate those penalties.
