Cici Bass

I make original music, demo gear on YouTube, present on Andertons TV. Artist: Ashdown & Anaconda bass

Huge thank you to KHDK and Alessandro Venturella V-Man for this!
Demo of this absolute monster of a pedal is now up on my channel (Cici Bass), here’s a snippet of the end jam 🙂

DO NOT BUY!!!!! This is NOT me, this is unofficial and unlicensed merch, all the money goes to SCAMMERS.

Make a pedalboard with me!
Just posted a video (over on a certain Tube platform, that Facebook doesn’t like me to name) unboxing and building the Warwick Rockboard - my new pedalboard.
I also talk about the signal flow, let you hear each pedal, and what I use it for!

Huge, huge thank you to Warwick Basses for being so kind and sending me this, and so many exciting things to go with it as well.
I can’t quite believe it, and I’m absolutely over the moon with it!
Danke, aus tiefstem Herzen 💜

This board is a slight downsize from the Mothership, as that was so heavy and I couldn’t fit through most human sized doors with it.
Here’s the end jam from the video, fittingly called ‘Boardwalk’.
Probably the longest loop I’ve ever done on a video 🤣 Something a bit different,
Hope you enjoy!

I’m not one for complaining on social media, but I feel this needs to be said.
Please read all of this thoroughly before you leave a comment.

- I pour hours into creating educational and helpful content on YouTube, as well as a new piece of music to go with every video.
- I’ve poured countless hours into my instrument.
- I’ve poured countless hours into seeing where I can push the bass and trying to test the limits of the instrument and experiment with it. This is evident in the original / improvisational pieces I post.

I have never rested on my looks or my body to get me anywhere (but, if anyone wants to do that, then that is entirely their choice).
Hell, I post half my videos in my pyjamas with unbrushed hair, because they were filmed in the moment.
My issue here isn’t with anyone who does anything I don’t do. Do what makes you happy!

I would love nothing more but to be able to post a video and not have 90% of the comments be about my looks, no matter what I played, or how much sense I spoke. (But, I don’t want anyone on my pages to feel awkward about what to write. The most important thing is the sentiment to me.)
I can not help the fact I’m female, I can not help if people compliment (or insult) me on my looks. This does not make whatever I posted ‘about my looks’. This does not make the reason I posted it to be ‘about my looks’.

If I didn’t have to use social media, I wouldn’t.
The reason I use it is because it’s a necessary tool for musicians. It’s also essentially an online portfolio.
I’m not interested in fishing for compliments for my own ego.
Any videos where I do ‘dress up’ are because:
1. It’s an important part of that portfolio to show that you can look the part if required.
2. I enjoy it.

I post original music, and yet any time I post a cover, I get told
‘Learn to play something original, kid’.
The irony of them not taking the time to discover new music even though it’s immediately available on all my pages…

I even did a video all too recently on my channel titled ‘WHY DO YOU PLAY BASS LIKE THAT?’ where I tackle some of these questions, including people not liking the way I move in my videos.
I move that way because that’s how I feel the music. Yes, it’s another part of my online portfolio to show what I can do, but every movement is genuine.
I post covers because they’re part of that portfolio.
I go into more detail on all of this and more in that video.

I’m posting more photos than videos here at the moment, as most of my videos are on my YouTube channel (which I advertise here, including a recent video essay I did talking about the psychology of musicicans.)
All my videos are educational or demos, and about the music only.
Another reason I’m posting mainly photos here at the moment is because I’m currently setting up my own projects, most of which happens - you guessed it - behind the scenes.
I don’t want my pages to be silent for months, so I post photos in the meantime. No compliment fishing involved.
Please take the time to pay attention to the things I actually say when I post here, instead of getting upset that I posted a photo of myself on my own page.

So, with all of this in mind…
Every time I post something, no matter what it is, what I’ve played, what I’ve said, what I’m wearing, I get told:
Stop fishing for compliments
Poser
Stop wearing pyjamas
Stop dressing up
Stop moving
Stop being still
Just another swishy haired Instagram girl, etc…
Well, sadly I can’t help being a girl, and I have long hair because I like it. It has nothing to do with my playing, and I’ve never rested on my looks to gain followers, nor am I interested in anyone who does.
I take great pride in being the best musician I possibly can be, and it’s about the music for me.
I also dedicate a lot of my time to trying my best to help other people pick up the instrument, sharing any info I have, and seeing where I can push the instrument in my solo bass jams.
I’m not interested in being an ‘instagram girl’ so please don’t diminish me to that, and take the time to truly, TRULY, look at what I do (whether you like it or not is fine). Thank you.

And lastly,
I know this is unavoidable to an extent, you can’t control what people say or think, and I accept that. I also try to appreciate any comments I do get about my looks, as I appreciate the sentiment.
But I really did need to say something, as I’m so very, very tired of being painted as something I’m not.
Thank you.

(And p.s, lighthearted note:
when I post a photo of me playing guitar, please stop telling me I’m playing the wrong instrument, you’ll have a heart attack when you see me play drums 😂)

EDIT:
As expected, seeing some comments complaining about me complaining.
Saying I should have thicker skin, etc…
I’ve been silent about this for 13 years, I’ve been putting pieces of my soul out there for everyone to judge for 13 years and I am still doing that.

I’ve got thick enough skin.

The point of this post is that nobody should have to have thick skin.
People should be decent.

And as I explained earlier in this post,
I know this is always going to happen on the internet. I don’t expect that to change.
This post isn’t to be woe is me, it’s quoting things that have happened regularly, because they should be spoken about.

I love this photo 🙂
Please let me know if you took it!

Portrait of Tracy 😊 The amps aren’t mine, but I could never turn down playing through them 😂 This Epiphone EB has such incredible harmonics, I’ve never known a bass ring out as much as this one, even just acoustically.
It was a real pleasure to demo this bass and it gave me a song I’m very proud of 😊 Demo is available on my YT channel!

Aged 16 here, I was lucky enough to meet Robert Trujillo (and the lovely Chloe Trujillo ) at the 2016 London Bass Guitar Show - There was a huge queue to meet Rob, and he was told he’d have to leave for sound check. But Rob insisted on staying to meet every single person, and even had a little chat with each of us, even though he missed his sound check.
He still played a blinder!

The Schecter Exotic P4 - in my humble opinion, one of the greatest sounding (and looking) basses ever created 😊
Also one of my favourite demos I’ve ever had the pleasure of doing on my YouTube, and it has given me so many original songs. Lots of music in this bass!

***FILM SCORES / VIDEO GAME SOUNDTRACKS***

Hello lovely people! I’ve been interested in creating music for films, video games, TV etc for a long time, but taking the plunge now.
So, if you would like any music for something like this, or know anyone who does, please give me a shout 😊

I’m particularly interested in: War, sci-fi / space, scientific style soundtracks, but will happily create anything for any type of film or game.

Some of the tracks shown in the video below are inspired by films and video games such as:
Dr. Strangelove, All Quiet On The Western Front, 1915, Terminator, Interstellar, Ratchet and Clank.

These tracks were all improvised and recorded straight into a camera, but of course things can be recorded ‘properly’ as well 😊

Thank you so much to Past FX for putting me on a pedal, never expected that to happen! 😊

Audio on these seems to be long gone sadly, but I wanted to share these clips for the pure joy of playing music, and this incredible instrument. I mean every note, and truly feel every movement. I let it move me, always 💜

Something a bit different on my YouTube channel tonight… I demoed my guitar (Adam Jones Epiphone Silverburst Art Series) 😊 I’m extremely lucky to own this guitar, Adam Jones, and everyone in Tool, have been huge inspirations to me for years. I’m really grateful to own this guitar, and I never expected it to happen! (Second guitar is not mine of course!)

16/08/2023

The first track from a set of 3 improvised songs that flew out - inspired by All Quiet On The Western Front.
This track (All Quiet), as well as the others, are also available on my Bandcamp, and YouTube (Cici Bass) 😊 . .

Just posted my demo of my Warwick Basses Corvette Teambuilt Pro Series! First demo I’ve been able to film since my house flooded, I’m so excited to finally be able to share this incredible bass with you all 😊
It also gave me not one, but THREE improv songs, which I’ve also released as an album on my Bandcamp (Cici Powell), titled ‘What Lies Between The Static’.

Links to both the video and the album in the comments if you’d like to check them out! 😊💜
