The Clay Haandi
I showcase healthy, home-style cooking that I have learnt & adapted along the way.
Being of Indian descent & having lived and worked in the Middle East, The Clay Haandi specialises in Indian, Middle Eastern & Indo-Chinese cuisine, plus so much more!
Inspired by a recent visit to Tamatanga in Birmingham, I rustled up a butter chicken, makhani Daal and trialed a new and simple recipe for “Cheesy” naan. So simple and so delicious (according to the family!)…served up with Pea Pillau, Greek yoghurt and salad
Tonight’s fish platter, with the star of the board, a Scottish Po***ck caught by my boy!…cooked simply with butter, seasoning, lemon and chives (I ran out of dill) and served with all you can see!..beetroot salad, potato, egg and spring onion salad, tagine potatoes, crispy haddock, tempura king prawns, chili and lime salmon, tomato, mozzarella and basil salad, fresh avocado, grilled asparagus topped with parmesan and very importantly…lemon wedges!
Check out my story to see my Bubba catching the Po***ck!🎣
Sorry I’ve been quiet on here…but I have been busy doing nothing on holiday in Barbados with my kids. Just some of the amazing food and drinks we had whilst we were away…a whole week of no cooking felt very strange to me!
Been a bit busy but a few things that have been cooking in the Haandi kitchen over the last couple of weeks!
Just a little celebratory dinner for JJ on getting a new job at a fab law firm!..Family Fav Fishy Platter-crispy cod, scampi, teriyaki salmon bites, chili, lime and coriander king prawns, patatas bravas, parmesan coated asparagus, beetroot salad with balsamic glaze, coleslaw, hot bread rolls and JJ’s other favourite..parmesan and truffle fries-using my Delongi multifry of course!
Part of yesterday’s order..homestyle chicken curry, butter free butter chicken, railway lamb, tarka daal, palak paneer, sholay and Bombay potatoes. In addition to this was veg samosas, mixed veg pakora’s,pea Pillau, plain and garlic naan and last but not least..cucumber and cumin raitha!
Today’s order was for a good friend of mine, for a dinner party this evening. She requested Railway Lamb-which is more aromatic than Homestyle lamb curry and the addition of potatoes. Homestyle Chicken Curry-traditionally made with chicken thigh on the bone (although I do offer off the bone too and/or leg pieces). The vegetarian dishes were Palak Paneer and Achaari Aloo Benghan-the achaari flavour give the aubergines and potatoes a little sharpness too the dish which works really well. This was all served up with Naan, Pea Pillau and some sliced, pickled red onion!
So my boy was pestering me for weeks to make this..Teriyaki and sesame topped Cod and Haddock fillets on a bed of Chili Chow Mein
Crispy Katsu Chicken made with spicy teriyaki noodles this evening. Mine were topped with Sriracha sauce and my son had Sriracha Mayo on his.
This was my first order of 2022!..Having had a break since 2020 due to my son being diagnosed with cancer, (thankfully he’s doing well now🙏🏽) and being extremely unwell when I contracted Covid the same year, I finally found it in myself to do this again!..What I make for my customers is exactly what I make for my own family, so you get genuine home cooked flavours. Everything is freshly made to order of course. My ethos is to cook more healthy Indian food packed full of flavour. All my curries are cooked with light olive oil and my Butter free Butter Chicken (BFBC)...is still my best seller.Lots of vegetarian/vegan options too!
Took my Son for lunch to Impasto this afternoon. Can honestly say it’s the BEST Italian I’ve had in Worcester. Great little place, authentic, obs great food and service! We shall definitely be going back!
I haven’t made this for a while. Full of Middle Eastern flavour’s with my spicy and aromatic rice served with zesty, zatar coated Chicken Shawarma.
Can’t beat a homemade (lamb) burger. We had ours with parmesan and truffle fries. 😋

Foodies Guide
Yesterday’s delicious dinner was my Fish Platter, as it was far too warm for a proper cooked meal 🌞-sweet potato salad topped with spring onions, salad cheese (like feta but made from cows milk)a garlic, sumac and lemon dressing, lightly battered cod, salt n chili breaded prawns, teriyaki salmon skewers, wild garlic n sea salt ciabatta, beetroot and red onion salad, garlic and pepper tomatoes and finally some chargrilled chili halloumi and seasonal asparagus!!
Dinner today was mostly my daughters choice. She was craving a Sweet Potato salad which I made a
little differently today, using all purpose seasoning, garlic, chili flakes, a yoghurt and garlic dressing with spring onion and balsamic glaze. This was served alongside Aromatic Spicy rice and Zatar Chicken.
Beautiful Teriyaki Haddock with black and white sesame seeds, alongside garlic and chili pak choi, soy and honey stem broccoli, and egg fried rice. Now a family fav!
Homemade Harissa paste. Smothered this on chicken breast, which was then cooked in my air fryer. As we are eating as healthy as we can atm, this was served up with some seasoned veg and caramelised sweet potato discs.
