Mac Motorcycles
Designed & Built in Great Britain
The joy of riding, meeting, fixing, drinking, eating, nattering, tinkering, friends, competing and making memories
'The last word' goes to this which appeared, like mushrooms, behind our stand on Saturday night and greeted us as we came tip-toeing past on Sunday morning - we'll leave you to caption it...
PS. That's the Motorcycles Funeral truck in the background who were just up the row from us...
For the chaps at Mac, it's always the people we meet that make events so special. In spite of all the connections you can make via social media, there's no substitute for meeting total strangers, finding something in common, and parting as acquaintances and, perhaps, even friends.
I got talking to a chap called Nigel, who'd ridden up from Wales. Nigel had been to visit every known Concorde on display and, by complete fluke, I am reading Mike Bannister's book about his time as Concorde's Chief Pilot - no doubt we'll keep in-touch.
There are always so many people behind the scenes at an event like this, burning the midnight oil to make sure everything is spot-on.
Lindsay, in the middle, is the ringleader and the brains behind Women in Moto , passionately and tirelessly promoting the benefits of motorcycling to wider audiences than traditions and stereotypes would have you believe. Her Dad, Clive, and her Mum, Susan, are just as industrious and always help make the event feel special.
The line-up of speakers and female role models was inspirational and just make you want to go and ride more, much more - even the police riders got a cheer for their safety demo'.
Ruby took some of Kielder with her but the stainless steel spokes, nickel-plated brass ni***es, polished alloy rims, Brembos all round and ABS hugger all performed flawlessly...
We spent the weekend at the races, not literally, but in the winners' enclosure at Uttoxeter Racecourse, at the Women in Moto event.
Ruby had spent the week prior being ridden to death, by both an experienced test-rider and a fearless teenager, in Kielder Forest and other unforgiving locations on the border between England and Scotland. Late on Friday, she was chucked into the back of the works van and then bundled into the back of another van at Donnington Park services and delivered to Uttoxeter late on Friday evening having been nowhere near a hose pipe or a cleaning rag.
In spite of her scruffy state, she garnered many admirers...
We didn't go to Prescott with the intention of making a video but our photographer, Robert, couldn't help himself, got his gadget out and sent us this. We hope it gives you a bit more of a flavour of the day. Our thanks to all those who came to see us, the organisers and the other riders who made it such a fab day...
With our collective thanks to Robert for doing this for us.
We met some ace people at Prescott Bike Festival recently, amongst which were father and son duo, Chris and Brad.
Brad works for a well-known aerospace company but his hobby is photography and he kindly took these for us.

We had a great day at Prescott Bike Festival – tropical weather, some fantastic machinery and best of all, the conversations we had with people who love bikes, some of whom were taking a fancy to our Rex 600.
We’re chuffed we took the bike out of its test schedule to have a blast up the hill. Our tame racer, Paul Wardell, tested our set-up to the limit and made some tweaks as the day went on. So, thank you to the organisers, fellow hill-climbers and fans of Mac for making it such an enjoyable day.
Back to the rough roads, water troughs and long rides as we plough through our durability testing.
Photographer for the day was Mac stalwart Robert Greshoff - https://www.greshoff.co.uk/index
A reminder that Mr Paul Wardell, three times a top ten Manx GP finisher and one of our regular test-riders, will be giving one of the Mac test-bikes a good thrashing at the 'Run the Hill' event during the Prescott Bike Festival, on Sunday the 23rd of June.
Please be sure to look for Ellis and the Mac bike in the paddock area between runs. He’ll be easy to spot with the 'Run the Hill' bike number 254.
Lots more info about the show can be found by clicking the link below. We hope to see you on Sunday the 23rd of June.
Prescott Bike Festival | Severn Freewheelers EVS | Bike Festivals The Prescott Bike Festival celebrates all things motorcycle. Our key attraction is the opportunity to 'Run the Hill' the UK's most prestigious Hill Climbs and rarely does the public get the chance to 'Run the Hill'. Limited tickets are available so book now!
Hello folks,
The Prescott Hill Climb track is just down the road from 'Mac Towers' Midlands, and the hallowed home of Bugatti owners but for one day a year it's the playground for Prescott Bike Festival and their 'Run the Hill' spectacle, all raising dosh for the Blood Bikes charity.
Giving one of the Mac test-bikes a good thrashing on the day will be the unassuming Mr. Paul Wardell, three times a top ten Manx GP finisher, and one of our regular test-riders.
More blurb here; https://prescottbikefestival.co.uk/
If you're somewhere nearby, come and say hello - in between runs, we'll be dossing about in the paddock.
Hope to see you on Sunday 23rd June.
A couple of weeks ago, Ellis had the pleasure of attending Women in Motorcycling Exhibition. Lindsey, who organises and runs the event, is a good friend of the Mac team, so it was not only good to attend from a professional point of view but also to support Lindsey personally.
Lindsey commented:
“The event was very well received, with just under 1600 attendees over the weekend. The new venue of Uttoxeter Racecourse proved popular, with extra space to stretch out for the campers and tarmac areas to create fun on-site riding experiences. Honda really pulled out all the stops with Ride Free, test rides and a static display. The Ride Free element was one of my favourite new additions this year, seeing future bikers try a taster ride to become the next generation of riders.
The Women in Moto Arena was another new spectacle which had silly games hosted by the formidable Vanessa Ruck, test rides of the electric Super Socos, and a wicked display from Derbyshire Police featuring burnouts, wheelies and smooth moto skills! Whilst all the workshops and speakers were very well received, no one could beat the filled-out room of Ruby Rides’ Makeup for Bikers session! We were fortunate with the weather shining down on everyone after a slightly soggy build-up, so everyone left nice and dry… Overall the feedback has been incredible and I look forward to doing it all again in 2024”.

Last Wednesday, we had the privilege of returning to The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), in Birmingham, to tell their members about the next leg of our journey bringing 'Rex' and 'Ruby' into production.
The IET's Birmingham outpost is a former nail factory, next to the canal, just behind The Rep and Symphony Hall in central Birmingham. It has been sensitively restored and sympathetically extended in places, with some modern architectural materials and features. We were in one of the upstairs presentation rooms and who knows whose footsteps we were following in.
A warm welcome from regional IET members, Ivan and Brian, and an attentive audience, with some searching questions and the odd heckle made close to a couple of hours spin by.
A great vote of thanks to our region's IET for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Hello Folks,
We are chuffed to tell you that we have been invited back to talk about our progress to the esteemed members of The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
Our talk is all about making 'Rex' and 'Ruby' a production reality, with as many components manufactured in Blighty as possible plus a few from Italy's Motor Valley, a seat from Portugal's textile manufacturing heartland and some electrical components from Taiwan.
We'll leave no bolt unturned...

Here's a thoughtful video made by 'The Mindful Motorcyclist', aka. Sean and Suzie. Ellis had the pleasure of meeting them both last year whilst answering their advert for surplus motorcycle parts which Mac wanted for some development work. Suzie's an experienced yoga practitioner and teacher and beyond his day-job, Sean's a competitive track-day rider. It wasn't long before the conversation naturally gravitated towards all things motorcycles.
Fast forward a few months and destiny brought us face-to-face with Sean once more at last year's 'Motorcycle Live' at the NEC, here in Blighty. During this serendipitous reunion, they delved into discussions about Rex and Ruby, as well as their ambitious plans for the bikes. This video sheds more light on their meetings and conversations, together with insights into Sean's thoughts on Rex and Ruby.

Almost a year to the day
Although we couldn't claim to be avid followers of the Isle of Man TT, this year we couldn't help but be gripped by some of the performances with eyewatering lap-times and average speeds. Whilst watching one of the bits of video footage, we spotted this and took a screen-shot. Steve and Lester Harris were instrumental in helping us design and fine-tune the frame for our original prototype motorbike. One of their mantras was; 'Racing improves the breed'.
The Harris brothers are never far from our thoughts so if you know whose bike this was on, please post here and we'll drop the team a line.
You can read the original post about Steve here: https://www.facebook.com/MacMotorcycles/posts/pfbid0SX5DdakjyijnvCyFYobZvcDzVhbPKqRp8Q4RGyWzqPfrsumprpcV8417YJW8uimkl
At last year’s Women in Moto show, father and daughter team - Dad & Mad chatted to us about our bikes. You can watch the video here: https://youtu.be/xALAvewBBNg

We first met Manuel de Liso and his company QD Exhaust at EICMA in 2019 where, on his exhibition stand, we spotted the elusive conical silencers or 'mufflers' as some people call them. The only cone manufacturer we could find here, in Blighty, makes them as enclosures for missiles.
Our development timetable ran straight into the Covid lockdowns so we have never been to QD's factory, in Vercelli, just outside Italy's 'Motor Valley'. All our development with Manuel and his team, on our production exhaust system, has been done remotely. Here's a short video that Manuel sent us recently showing us the production-intent system that we're using for durability-testing. They have been a pleasure to work with.
https://www.qdexhaust.it/
Our durability testing is confirmatory – it’s about validating the design and engineering decisions we’ve made, analysis and simulation have been key but there’s still a place for physical testing.
In this phase we focus on more arduous tests which are designed to represent many years/miles of use but compressed over a shorter period of time – for example we complete test routines on; Belgian pave, rough roads, water troughs as well as riding in cities and country roads. Some of our most challenging tests are hot climate hill climbs, designed to validate the thermal performance of various systems. So, in a relatively short period of time, Rex and Ruby will well and truly have been put through their paces…
2 more frames for inspection
Here's a few snaps from our last day at 'Motorcycle Live' which definitely had a family feel about it. The chaps at Mac can all remember, as nippers, going to local bike shops and exhibitions and sitting on as many bikes as we could, our imagination running riot - so often it's where the passion starts...
We'd like to thank all those who came to see us last week, we really appreciated you taking the time to do so and we thoroughly enjoyed talking to you.
We’re Pushing Off Early Tomorrow’s Saturday and heading to the Motorcycle live show’

It's been another busy day for us today at 'Motorcycle Live' today but two conversations stand-out ;
Two charming Irishmen greeting us with a handshake and a stream of witty banter and usernamekate with her fella who is rarely seen in photos because he's quietly grafting away behind the scenes to help Kate take the limelight.
Our thanks to all those we met today, we appreciate you taking the time to come and see us.
Today, at 'Motorcycle Live', we had an unscheduled royal visit from His Most Worthiness, Mr. Mark Wilsmore and 'The Main Man' at The Fifty Nine Club. We tugged our forelocks and couldn't resist a snap of these two stalwarts of British motorcycle culture, standing next to our 'Rex'. EP, the groupie at Mac MC
Just one from today, at 'Motorcycle Live', taken of a certain Mr. Mac, owner of a shoe dynasty, by one his friends, in the last five minutes of the show. This photo nicely sums-up the feel of the day and the people we've met. Our sincerest thanks to all those who came to see us today, we enjoyed talking to you.
Hello Folks, here's a handful of photos from our first day at 'Motorcycle Live', one of the highlights of which was meeting and talking to this father and son duo. The young man, posing on 'Ruby', was wearing a replica Red Arrows flying suit and it doesn't get much more British than that. It's always a joy to meet such interesting and pleasant people.
If you're coming to 'Motorcycle Live', make sure you bring Rita, Sue and Bob too...
You can find us on stand 4D21, in Hall 4, at Motorcycle Live between 19th – 27th November, at the NEC.
