WHY- Daily we see so much, we report so much, we see so much not being addressed even with evidence ,
WHY - The laws are weak. No deterrents, Breeders have been and are allowed to do as they please , geneticially modifying dogs ,Online sales out of control from greeder breeders, , Reports of dog fighting not followed up by police & authorities, Dogs blamed for bad breeder/owners and they are let out off with a slap on wrist whilst dogs lose their lives
WHO HAS CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN- Government with their weak laws .Look at your animal welfare law. It is laughable . Give RSPCA & Police more powers to prosecute PEOPLE
WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN- Listen to groups that have so much evidence doing authorities jobs for them, follow up on evidence given, Increase the animal welfare laws, Regulate & license breeders with heavy fines and prison for illegal breeders and breach of regulations. Stop online sales of animals . BLAME BAD BREEDERS & BAD OWNERS
WHAT NOT TO DO - DO NOT BLAME DOGS- They did not ask to be born, They did not ask to have a bad owner , They did not ask to be bred from due to greed of money , They did not want to be genetically modified for again greed of money
WHAT DO DOGS WANT- They want the government to step up as THIS IS YOUR FAULT- YOU ALLOWED IT TO GET TO THIS STAGE -IGNORING REPORTS FROM MANY WHICH HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS - YOU SHOULD ALSO BE PROSECUTED AND TAKE THE BLAME

This is a fast moving situation and we understand there will be concerns and questions, especially from those of you caring for American XL Bullies. We are currently developing further advice and guidance.

What is our position on XL bullies?

We have long campaigned against Breed Specific Legislation, which bans dogs simply due to the way they look. This has failed to protect the public and animal’s welfare and have seen countless dogs who have not shown aggression lose their lives. Our position around banning XL bullies is the same - we don’t believe this will effectively protect the public or animal welfare. Please see our blog for more information on our position.

What are we doing in response to the Government announcement?

We are incredibly disappointed at the Government’s announcement but sadly feel like that this law change is highly likely. So, we are working with our partners in the animal welfare sector and the Dog Control Coalition to respond to the Government and urge them to think through the wide-reaching implications of this ban for animals, for public safety, for enforcement agencies and the animal welfare sector. We are continuing to campaign for more effective enforcement and early interventions - which bring dogs to the attention of law enforcement earlier if there is concern about their behaviour before it escalates. We also need to tackle irresponsible breeders, work with people to prevent incidents from happening but in addition to tough sentences to punish and deter those who use dogs to harm other people.

With the media attention about XL Bullies at present we would like to give our view whilst of course very sorry and heartbroken for any dogs/people that have been attacked and/or lost their life. Our message below explains our reason for posting -
"When will media/government/authorities listen to reason ??? - When will government/authorities understand the root of the issue. Lack of animal welfare laws preventing Rspca actioning,
Police & councils not actioning reports of illegal breeding & dog fighting.
You ban this breed the same people will create another.
Root of issue is a MUST !!!.
A dog doesn't ask to be born, start looking at the PEOPLE creating the issues and bad ownership !!.
Toughen laws, give police & Rspca more powers. Stop online sales of animals . Stop genetic fertility clinics. Do more inspections to licensed breeders . Maybe look at a ban on breeding for a while to help the many dogs in rescue have a chance . Tighten checks on foreign rescue dogs as we are aware of some being placed in homes with no assessments . (I must note here we care about foreign dogs as much as uk ones but more checks need to be in place as horrific cases have been sent to us It isn't fair on a dog to not have correct training/assessments then put in a place that may cause it more stress )
Dont blame the dogs. Blame government too !!!!!
If certain breeds need to be muzzled & kept on lead in public then that is as maybe
