Celebrating a 40th with stripes and all the chocolate!

Lots of things went a bit wrong with this cake, as sometimes happens with baking, but what went very right is getting to make one of my best friend’s 40th birthday cake and having the best weekend celebrating with her! 🥂

Vegan Oreo chocolate cake
I feel like baking vegan cakes is a bit magical - how can you make a decent cake without butter and eggs? Yet it seems it can be done, as demonstrated by this plate of chocolatey sponge and (non-butter) buttercreamy deliciousness, delivered ready for an Oreo-loving boy’s birthday breakfast. Yum 😋

A bit of cake to welcome in the weekend 🌸

I couldn’t sleep last night thinking about making pretzels after finding on Instagram so at 5am I gave in and got baking. It can’t just be me that is kept awake by recipes?

I’m busy baking to feed parents in need of a treat tomorrow at Little Lambs DCS public in Wroughton. It’s at 10am at the Ellendune Centre and you won’t find a lovelier bunch of people. My girls used to love it! And there is cake…

And just like that it’s September! Tea and cake anyone?…

Do you remember on every 90s pub menu there was Death by Chocolate cake? It was always my pudding of choice. This reminds me so much of it.

I may have eaten this big slice for breakfast. Happy Friday! 😁

Hello! I thought it was time to introduce myself a bit. I’m Anne, the face behind Pace Bakes. I live in Wroughton with my husband and two girls. I’m originally from Loughborough but this has been our home for over 10 years now and we love it!

I’m not a natural sharer 😳 so thought I would start with three things that make me happy:

* Loud music. I love most music but a blast of Foo Fighters with the volume at 11 will always brighten up a grumpy morning and get us out on the school run with a smile on our faces. 🤘
* Sunshine…but from the shade! I love sunshine but I’m pale so give me factor 50, some shade and a daft hat and I’m happy. ☀️
* Baking. I didn’t realise how much it calms me until we had a couple of months with a broken oven a few years ago. Getting to eat cake afterwards is the cherry 🧁

What makes you smile?

Happy Father’s Day to all of the amazing dads and dad-figures. Lots of love for the much-missed dads too ❤️

I love the glossy look of brownie mixture before it is baked. Even better with the swirls of biscoff in these biscoff brownies 😍

Princess Poppy cake! 💕

It was my youngest daughter’s birthday last week and she wanted ALL the pink! Her love of Princess Poppy continues so it had to be bright pink sponge filled with pink buttercream and raspberry jam and covered in pink fondant with her princess at the centre. It’s not perfect but she loved it 🥰 I have no photos of the bright pink sponge inside as we ate it all 😳

Leftover buttercream...what is your favourite way to use it up? If I’m not just spooning it into my face, mine is smushed between a couple of hobnobs and eaten with a brew! Yum 😋
