St Cuthbert's House, Ampleforth College
St Cuthbert's is Ampleforth's oldest boarding house. It's a place our boys can call home from home.
A big day for Miles as he heads off with other Year 12s to commence the Big Walk 2023. They will undertake an epic 78km journey in 24 hours, walking through the afternoon and night to raise money for Oakfield School as part of the Friendship Project. Awesome - good luck Miles and all.
Please head to the link in our Bio for how to donate to this worthy cause, and give what you can!
Mental health matters regardless of the week but during this we have made toasties together, had some friendly competition on the putting green, listened to how others cope with anxiety, particularly during the exam period, planted out our tomato seedlings and had hugs with Wicket.
A stunning evening for a social with Year 10. Marshmallows on the fire, croquet, pizza… what’s not to like?
On this weekend the boys have enjoyed watching the historic moment on tv, a bbq in the garden followed by a few games of croquet.
Last night some of the boys were invited to the Abbey crypt for a service of reconciliation. Fr Cedd spoke to them about the struggle we all face to confront our shortcomings. Whether through confession, a blessing or a quiet moment of prayer with our chaplains, they were all uplifted by the experience.
Deli night is back!! 🧀 🍇 🥖😵💫
Colour Run for FACE FAW.
💜🧡💙💚💛
Repurposing an area in the house for Each Deanery has planted a tray of tomato seeds. The boys will work together to grow tomato plants and will hopefully reap the rewards… It could get competitive!
“Live in mutual harmony with all other servants of Christ. Do not despise those faithful who come to you seeking hospitality. Receive them, put them up, and set them on their way with kindness, treating them as one of yourselves. Do not ever think yourselves better than your companions who share the same faith and follow the monastic life.”
The words spoken by St Cuthbert before he died to his fellow of monks and our guide to live by in the house.
Wishing all of the St Cuthbert’s community a very happy and holy Easter.
Thank you for a wonderful 8 years as Housemaster, topped off with a memorable event on Wednesday afternoon with the boys, their parents and colleagues.

Well done Year 9 and 10 for finishing second in House Hockey today!
A fun day at Inter-House Cross Country yesterday - particular well done to Iggy, who won the Senior Boys' Race!
What a joy to come together as a House community to celebrate the Baptism of Daniel this evening!
A highly creditable 3rd place for the boys in the House Song competition - particular well done to James S who accompanied the boys’ rendition of The Cave by Mumford and Sons. Benedict A-B also came third in the Junior Solo musician competition!
Thank you to the boys and staff for an outstanding House Punch - a moving speech from Jack F and a reprise of Ampleforth Rockstar produced by Jack and Jack B. It has been a joy to spend eight years in this wonderful community.
A busy weekend - Deli Night, a social at John's, Windmill, watching live boxing, Premier League and the NFL.
Happy birthday Iggy!
Post-prep crepes! Thanks Ben, Odon and Will!
Well done to the boys for their efforts today in House swimming!
An impressive showing on the hockey pitch yesterday - Dimitri captained the 1st XI for the first time, with Paddy getting two goals. We were also very well represented in the 2nd XI, Under 15s and Under 14s sides.
Home-made cookies and some cakes to celebrate Daniyal's birthday have kept the boys fueled this week!
A superb new boys' St Cuthbert's Nativity Story is the annual highlight of House Christmas Dinner.
The Housemaster, tutors, and Upper Sixth the butt of the jokes, as ever, last night!
Waiting for the fateful penalty...
A treat for some of our boys, who joined in this evening's Politics Department workshop with Kevin Hollinrake MP and Councillor George Jabbar.
The boys are enjoying Christmas Jumper Day!
Mr and Mrs Price kindly sent in some boxes of cupcakes, which kept the boys fed during the England-Wales game last night!
Not a bad start to the World Cup for England today. We had lunch in House today, and you can see that the boys took full advantage of enjoying the game together.
Really enjoyable to be able to watch Freddie, James and Theo in their GCSE Theatre Studies rehearsals this morning!
One boy from London, the other from Paris - confidently leading our House Mass this evening.
Thanks to James for sharing this great photograph of the boys and staff at Durham Cathedral for our House Retreat.
Another busy week of birthdays in St Cuthbert's - last week we celebrated Luke's 18th, and William's 15th!
Sixth Form got stuck into the Windmill theme last night - dress your name!
Great to have such a relaxed weekend, enjoying some great rugby together as well as a curry on Saturday evening.
Mr Seymour managed to move us to a solid 5.5 out of 10 in our first rehearsal for our whole House song, which we will perform at next week's House Music Recital. Not bad for 20 minutes work!
Today's House Retreat had the theme of Life's Journey. We followed the Camino Ingles from Finchale Priory to the Shrine of St Cuthbert in Durham Cathedral, praying our Sunday evening prayers where we repeat St Cuthbert's final instruction to his fellow monks "to live in mutual harmony with all other servants of Christ". We had lunch at St. John's College, Durham University, and celebrated Mass at Durham University Catholics.
Deaneries are integral to our House ethos - last night we started House Retreat with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, a powerful talk from Victor about his experience in Lourdes, and then a Deaneries pub quiz hosted by quizmaster Jack!
Happy birthday Tomasz!
Quality time with Years 9 and 10!
