Interested in the culture of Grenada? Follow Grenada National Trust for fun and fascinating facts on our beautiful country!

"Bèlè or Belair is a bare-foot folk dance which resembles the historical European Lancers and Quadrille dances, and incorporates African elements that define it today. Two versions of the Bélé are usually performed, the Bélé (plain) and the Grand Bélé. The women–costumed in brightly coloured head scarves, long-sleeved dresses and long white-laced petticoats–and men–in gandy shirts, red headband, white trousers or dungarees and bracelets–move to the beat of drums, with stylised and sensual foot movements. It is often referred to as the oldest Creole dance in the region and is common in the islands with colonial French influences.

Even though this ICH element has not been documented in this first pilot inventorying fieldwork due to limited resources and timeframe, some local dance companies are doing efforts to keep this element alive and have recognized and expressed the need to do more research and fully document this living heritage element in further ICH inventorying initiatives."

(Edited for space, check out her page for the entire post!)

The holidays can be very hard for some. It can be a lonely time, and a very desolate and dark and cold time. I heard a message this weekend from about ways to be Happier during the holiday season and I wanted to share them with you! Maybe they can help someone.

1)Remember the reason for the season! If you really have your eyes on the real reason for this holiday season it’s hard not to feel grateful and thankful. It’s not about the gifts. It’s about THE gift that was given to us.

2)Spend time with family and friends. Family is a true gift and time with them really brightens this time of year. Don’t isolate yourself during the holidays especially if you tend to feel down. If your family is not a place you feel you can go, connect with a friend, have a holiday celebration with a special co-worker, or join a church family(ours will be serving a free Thanksgiving dinner for all and its amazing!). Family isn’t always blood.

3)Be grateful for what you have. Have an attitude of gratitude. You are given exactly what you need. It can be hard these days with social media and everyone posting their lives and gifts to not feel like you may be missing out or not have “enough” or aren’t good “enough”. That simply isn’t true. Sometimes disconnecting from social media during the holidays and truly being present is the way to really enjoy what you have.

4)Serve others. It’s better to give than to receive. Get HIGH this holiday season! The “Helpers High” that is. 😁 It always feels better to serve others and help a family in need than to shop until you drop. Trust me. Those gifts fade often times in a day, but the feelings of helping others in need and making their holidays brighter stays with you forever.
💙

Sending you all love and aloha this holiday season! 😚

Zero line ups in Sauteurs to get annual vehicle inspection and sticker! Suggest all our friends from St George’s who are dealing with crazy long waits on Dusty Highway instead plan to come up and enjoy a visit to and plan on a lazy lunch at Going North (take out a fab boneless chicken roti and enjoy it in the new beach) or at Helena’s! 🚙🌴😎
