The Georgia Legislature is back in session now in a consequential year for Georgians. There is much to look at this year in terms of potential legislation being passed. Once again, it is likely that Republicans will try to push a school vouchers bill that hurts Georgian education. Some positive legislation may be developed during this session with Democrat Au's bill on providing a tax break for gun safe purchases. Overall there is much to look at this session and we will try to keep our readers updated and informed on these issues. The legislative session reminds us all why it's so important that Democrats control the chambers. To help us prevent Republican bills from passing, and enable Democrat bills to become law, join us at https://www.2030project.org/get-involved and consider donating https://secure.actblue.com/donate/2030project

Thirteen years ago, I had just been reelected to Congress when my life and community changed forever. Six people were killed, 12 more were injured, and I was shot in the head at a Safeway in Tucson. Our community lost so much that day, but we came together and found hope in one another.
No matter how many years go by, I will never forget the lives that were tragically cut short on January 8, 2011: Christina-Taylor Green, Dorothy Morris, Judge John Roll, Phyllis Schneck, Dorwan Stoddard, and Gabe Zimmerman. Their memories are always with me.
My recovery is a lifelong journey and it has not been easy. After the attack, I had to relearn how to walk and speak, and find a new way to serve my community. In the wake of the horrific shooting at Sandy Hook two years later, I founded to prevent more senseless tragedies.
Over the past 11 years, we’ve passed over 620 gun safety laws in states nationwide. Just like my recovery, progress happens step by step and day by day. I know that together, we can continue to make a difference and save lives.
