Hello Hudglies 👋

Sorry for the quietness. As you know, Hudgekins went back to school and I have been totally and utterly fully booked this week, in Hudge (see picture below) and school (did you know I’m also a teacher, albeit part time?). I’m so grateful to Grandma Hudge coming over 🙏 , at the household helm so I can focus and crack on, but it has meant the stall has been very bare.

I need a few days to refocus so just to let you know that the stall will be stocked next weekend. I will, of course, let you know when it is and with which flavours.

Happy 4th Birthday to Hudge!

I can’t believe it’s been four years since Hudge Hedge Fudge graced our wall/driveway. I still get excited and burst with gratitude for each packet sold, for every interaction with very satisfied customers, and for the kind words and support I have received over the years. So thank you 🙏

Hudge started when I was coming out of a tough place. Covid restrictions were being eased and the island was beginning to return to normality. But I wasn’t ready. I had never addressed my alopecia that began when I became a mother, and wanted to stay in hiding. But with help from my doctor and Healthy Minds, I begin to accept and embrace my changing identity. Hudge became my new focus, my new challenge and passion project. When we were interviewed for BBC Gsy, I decided to go all in with appearing on TV without my wig or headscarf. For me, it was the start of a new chapter, and I remain as passionate and committed to my little business as ever.

So Happy 4th Birthday to Hudge 🥰 it’s always been much more than fudge to me.

I’ll be taking a little rest from the Hudge kitchen to spend time with the Hudgekins before school begins again 🫣 eek. With today’s torrential rainfall, I’m wondering where the summer has gone 🤷‍♀️

It’s been all about the raspberries lately. And this flavour flies right out of the stall! Raspberry & Coconut 🥥 and out right now. The stall has a total of 10 flavours to tempt you with - it’s a tricky one to decide which ones to choose!

Yesterday I spent my afternoon tending to my raspberry canes, cutting back this year’s and tying up the new growth. They are definitely a favourite to pick at - even put dogs like nibbling them straight off the plant! 🌱🐶 Our garden has had a wild growth spurt with the rain and glorious sunshine. And with today’s forecast of beautiful rays, we will be making the most of it. A few morning chores before enjoying the ☀️🏖️ 🦀 🌊 what a perfect Sunday ahead.

Kicking the weekend doors open with a cracking flavour, as so politely requested.

Hudge’s Boozy Raisins aka Rum ‘n’ Raisin.

All our fruity and boozy flavours have the fruit bathing in liquor 🥃 for 48 hrs, making sure the fruit plumps and swells, ready to be added to the Hudge base. These flame raisins and Mount Gay Rum are the perfect combination for this classic flavour.

You’ll find this very moreish batch on the stall and at the airport in the Guernsey Hamper Company’s shop.

I try making this pudding but with mixed success. It often turns into Eton Mess but on the occasions it keeps its height, it’s got to be one of my favourites.

Raspberry Pavlova is out on the stall this morning, along with many others.

We waved our special visitors off a couple of days ago, with our hearts full of precious memories and so thankful we got to spend time with them 🥰 Every day was packed with activities and time together, but now it’s back to normality, it means I’m back in the Hudge kitchen.

I’m totally loving these! And they are just my colours. To have Hudge Life on them makes super special! How cool is that?!

We’re soaking up all the family love at the moment, and enjoying being tourists on our own island. Just someone please do a sun dance ☀️💃

Erm. Not the well stocked stall as usual this week. In fact, because of your excellent taste in local, handmade fudge, there isn’t even the tiniest crumb left. So, thank you. Thank you for your support and buying a product I love making for you 🧑‍🍳🥰

I’m taking a little time off. Probably a week but as always I will let you know when the stall is stocked again. We have our stateside family visiting and we are planning on making up for the years we haven’t seen them. It’s utterly special and so precious, especially seeing the Hudgekins and their cousins bond.

So whilst we’re making memories, making Hudge is paused. Just for a little bit 😘

End of term is so bittersweet. Another year ticked off the academic calendar but, boy, would someone make time slow down. Our oldest Hudgekin has one year left at primary. Eek! We are so thankful to all the staff involved in their education 👏

I’m booked up for the next couple of weeks. Teacher gifts, weddings, special events, plus our own family celebrations, means that the diary is full. It’s always a pleasure to make gift boxes. They take a little more planning to make several different flavours, but they are so special to give and, no doubt, receive. Each box is made with great care and pride. This delicious box was handed over to to accompany a magnificent selection of local goods for her client. I’m thankful for this cooler weather today. It’s far more favourable to allow added chocolate to set. In fact, I’m making the most of it as all batches made today have chocolate in them. They’ll be ready tomorrow 😘

I met two lovely ladies from Leeds last weekend. They came to the Forest especially to visit the Hudge hedge stall as highly recommended to them from the Tourist Information Centre. So thank you to the lovely folk there, who have exceptional taste in fudge.

Head to the Government House this afternoon for the annual charity day. Do visit the Guernsey Counselling gazebo, a charity we are very proud to support. You can buy mini bags of vanilla with all proceeds going to this incredible charity, and say hi to Sarah and Ali. So many worthy charities will be there today 👏

Good morning, Hudglies. And Happy Bank Holiday Weekend too! Have you made plans? We’re planning on chilling, building Lego and having a splash about. A little self care for the family after a busy few weeks 🥰

Talking of self care, we are firm believers of not denying yourself of small pleasures. And one flavour that brings a lot of pleasure is Sour Cherry & Amaretto. After soaking in Amaretto for over two days, the plump cherries release sweet, dark flavours, turning the batch to a beautifully rich colour. This favourite doesn’t last long on the stall, so lucky for you the stall is out bright and early!

Have you seen the photos from the glorious Northern Lights display we were treated to last night? 🌄💜💚💙 wow! 🤩 I’m slightly disappointed in myself for prioritising sleep so I can only hope for round 2 this evening 🤞🤞someone please tell me we can expect them again tonight?!

What a varied and wide range of topics the organisers arranged for this year’s festival 👏 and to think that Michel Roux Jr may have sampled this fine Guernsey Hudge makes me very happy indeed 😃👨‍🍳
