Day 2 of the Accra Reparations Conference is underway. Sharing some snapshots from the impactful proceedings of yesterdayโs event. ๐ฌ๐ญ
Yesterday marked the initiation of the 4-day Accra Reparations Conference, commencing with an official banquet hosted at the Jubilee House. Themed "Building a United Front to Advance the Cause of Justice and the Payment of Reparations to Africans," this extensive gathering brings together Heads of State and Governments from Africa and the Diaspora, alongside representatives from academia, legal experts, and civil society organizations.
The conference serves as a pivotal milestone in addressing historical injustices, spanning the eras of slave trade, segregation, colonialism, apartheid, neo-colonialism, and neo-liberalism. It aims to facilitate meaningful dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the formulation of actionable strategies among diverse stakeholders.
The significance of this gathering lies in its role as a crucial step toward redressing historical grievances and fostering unity among nations dedicated to rectifying past injustices. ๐ฌ๐ญ
I met with the owner of Rap Snacks, James Lindsay, in Miami to explore business opportunities in Africa, focusing on making Ghana their main manufacturing hub for the African market. In December, the owner will introduce Rap Snacks to market, possibly featuring Ghanaian artists on the packaging, with a primary goal of creating job opportunities for Ghana's youth. We're incredibly excited about this endeavor and its potential to benefit both Rap Snacks and Ghana's young workforce.

The Board of Airline Representatives, Ghana, chaired by Eloina Baddoo, recently met with the Director, Akwasi Awua Ababio, and myself at the Diaspora Affairs Office of the President, Ghana to address challenges faced by Diaspora travelers to and from Ghana. These challenges include cost concerns, new Caribbean routes, flight availability, emergency charter options, and more.
Notable representatives from airlines like Delta, United, Air France, Egypt Air, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Kenya Airways, South Africa Airlines, AWA, and others attended the meeting. It's promising to witness a significant increase in visitors from African nations and Diasporans from North & South America, the Caribbean, and Europe, surpassing pre-Covid levels. We'll share insights into airline and traveler costs in future engagements with the Diaspora community to enhance passenger experiences when traveling to Ghana.
Discussions also explored potential new routes connecting the Caribbean and Ghana, as well as expanding routes in North American and European cities. This is just the beginning of our discussions, and we encourage Diaspora members to explore upcoming programs, especially in December, and take advantage of airline packages for their trips to Ghana. ๐ฌ๐ญ โ๏ธ

The Business Conference hosted by the Ghanaian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce was a fantastic opportunity to engage with the diaspora community in Toronto.
