*DOUBTING*

READ: Luke 4:15-32
```“And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.“```
*Luke 4:24*
When Jesus preached in His hometown, they were filled with wrath.The word “wrath” in Greek is the word thumos. This means _“incipient displeasure fermenting in the mind. It speaks of fierceness, indignation (as if breathing hard) and wrath”._ The familiar people were angry at the sermon.
But when He preached in Galilee according to
*Luke 4:32,*
```“They were astonished at his doctrine.”```
The word astonished is a Greek word ekplesso which means, _“to be amazed, astonished and struck with terror”_.
Notice also that thumos took place in Nazareth, Jesus’ hometown. Ekplessotook place in a city of Galilee about two hundred kilometres from Jesus’ hometown of Nazareth.
Every man of God basically, is a “man”.
No man that God ever chose had a perfect life.
He has challenges just like everyone else. It is easy to pick on any aspect of his natural life to demystify and neutralize him.
Discussing the man of God in a natural way is a sure sign that you have lost your sense of fascination and awe for him. This is the surest way to cancel out the effect of the anointing on your man of God.
By doing this, you are cutting yourself from receiving God’s miracle for your life. When Jesus went to His hometown, there was a long discussion as to who He really was.
Jesus could do very few miracles because of the high concentration of familiarity and doubt in the city.
*Do not let familiarity cut you off your blessing.*

*HUMILITY*

READ: Matthew 15:1-6
```“He must increase, but I must decrease.”```
*John 3:30*
There is a period in a man of God’s life in which he is rejected. During this period of alienation, many important spiritual traits will be birthed in him.
*A personal relationship with God is one of the most important things that you will learn when people reject you.* _Every true minister derives his strength from the Lord directly_.
Many will come in that day and say, ```“I cast out demons in your name and I did great works in your name.” But the Lord will say, “I never knew you.”```
*This goes to say that every minister must be very particular about his relationship with the Lord.*
The rejection by man is intended to make you develop humility. *Humility is the highest mantle a minister can wear.* The more humble a minister, the higher his standing before the Lord.
One of the common deceptions in the church is that the larger your church, the higher your standing before the Lord. That is not the case. Jesus made it clear that the greatest pastor will be the most humble and childlike amongst us
*(Matthew 18:3).*
John the Baptist’s humility was evident. He made it clear that he was not worthy to unlace the shoes of Jesus. He deferred to the Lord and stated that Jesus must increase that he would decrease.
How many pastors today want others to increase whilst they decrease? The humility of Jesus was evident.
```He humbled himself and became obedient even to the death of the cross```
FAULT FINDING

READ: Luke 6:41:42
“…Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye…” - Luke 6:42
When there is a visiting preacher from abroad, no one considers whether he is an impatient or easily-angered man. All we do is to receive his ministry. However, these are thoughts that occur to us about men of God that we are familiar with. We think, “He must be angry today, this man is not patient.” As he preaches we say to ourselves, “We understand what he is saying; why does he not progress to the next point?”
I once had a church member who really enjoyed my messages. However as time went by, she became familiar with my preaching and with me. One day after church she said to me, “I think you went over last week’s point for too long.” She continued, “There was very little time for the new points that you brought up.”
A few weeks later, she made another remark, “The repetition in the preaching is too much.” After this I noticed the frown on her face each time I preached. This lady eventually stopped coming to church. She did not realize that I was preaching to people who come to church one week and didn’t come the next week. I virtually had a new crowd every week.
Have you removed the log in your own eye? Why are you concentrating so hard on the speck in the pastor’s eye? Familiarity has made you critical. Democracy in its essential nature, calls on us to evaluate our leaders constantly. This is what enables us to vote for the right person. Unfortunately, many are deceived when they think that the same practice of evaluation must be brought into the church.

SHORT CUTS
25th April 2019
READ: Matthew 16:24-28
“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” - Luke 9:23
Unfortunately, some Christians are under the delusion that there must be some short cut to Heaven. You cannot escape the Christian rudiments and go to Heaven.
You cannot escape the cross. There is no short cut around the cross. In this day and age of instant coffee, instant tea and jet travel, everybody wants to have things fast, quick and short.
In boarding school, I learnt the hard way that short cuts must be avoided. I obtained an excuse duty slip from the doctor, which exempted me from any assigned chores for four days. After I had taken a friend’s suggestion and changed the “4” days to “14”, this friend betrayed me. He was the first Judas I was to meet in my life. I suffered greatly for that mistake. First of all, my four days of excuse were cancelled and I was given the most difficult chores to do, as well as extra punishment. From that time, I decided there would be no more short cuts in my life.
I realized long ago that there is no short cut to Heaven. I will have to go the hard way. When you put seed into the ground, it will need to go through the long process of dying and growing before yielding fruit. Unfortunately, some of us want to escape the processes of dying and growing up. You cannot expect to just put money in the offering and hope that everything will be alright. You cannot avoid the reality of fasting, praying, fellowship, and witnessing. These are biblical standards we just cannot avoid!

LEADERSHIP

READ: Nehemiah 5:1-18
“For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?” - 1 Corinthians 14:8
There are times that making suggestions and giving advice will not work. You must give a clear command to the troops.
If you are too weak to give a command you cannot be a leader. Leaders must give advice and make suggestions. But a leader must also give commands. There are times that you have to say, “Go!”
The Lord revealed that a certain pastor in my outfit was disloyal to me. He said to me, “Give a clear command.” He told me that after I gave the command, the disloyal element would manifest. I called two pastors to my office and told them, “I have given you suggestions and advice before. But now I am explicitly instructing you to move out of this city into the following towns.” I continued, “In other words I am transferring you.” You see, I had taken my place as a strong leader of my church.
One of the pastors smiled and said, “I think that this is a good opportunity to inform you of my decision to resign.” This young man had been hatching a plan for some time. He had not had the courage to disclose it. I had known that his heart was not with me. Giving the strong command had brought out what was in him.
Pray for strength and courage to be a good leader. Giving commands will establish your position as a leader and will expose disloyal elements within your ranks. Develop the art of commanding. Of course, you must not go about commanding everyone. You can only command your troops.
