What can a failed economist tell you about the economy of the Gambia. Shameless guy.
GIRAV Project Hands Over 50 Motorcycles, Weighing Scales, Quire Books to DoA
The Gambia Inclusive and Resilient Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (GIRAV) today, 14th October handed over fifty (50) motorcycles, weighing machines, scales, and quire books to the Department of Agriculture (DoA).
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Hon. Dr. Demba Sabally, Minister of Agriculture, lamented that a key challenge to his ministry’s effort and investment in food nutrition security, poverty, and vulnerability to Climate Change is the perennial law of agricultural productivity due to limited access to input, technology, and agricultural extension advisory services.
“Agricultural productivity has remained low in recent years as producers have had little access to technology inputs and advice support, especially for transfer of adaptation of productivity-enhancing and climate-smart technologies which will be needed to increase rapidly our food security, especially in the recent challenges,” he stated.
Hon. Sabally narrated that an improved business environment will increase the incentives for private investment and strong value chain organization and increase access to finance and credible solutions to core value chain performance.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, the project has provided logistics to facilitate yield data collection which is critical to measuring the outcomes of the investments of the seed distribution.
He revealed that since its national launch on August 17th, 2022 the GIRAV Project whose development objective is to promote the development of an inclusive resilient, and competitive agricultural value chain focusing on smallholder farmers and agro-businesses has provided significant assistance to farmers and key partners mainly DoA.
“The project procured and distributed in June an assortment of 250 metric tons of certified rice and maize seeds to more than 12,500 smallholder farmers across the country to effectively identify and track the progressive evolution of the effects of the qualities provided,” he added
These Motorbikes, according to the Honorable Minster, are provided to the Director to enhance supervision and monitoring, and data collection of all project activities including the extension programmes.
*The people deserve respect and to be told nothing, except the truth.*
Hon. Lamin Queen Jammeh responds to UDP Leader and Secretary General
October 12, 2022.
The people deserve respect and to be told nothing except the truth, were the words of the Democrat (President Adama Barrow) whose presidency is leading a transition to full blown Democracy and democratic rule in the Gambia. It will be recalled that during his Media Engagement at the Banjul International Airport from the UN General Assembly Meeting in New York, President Barrow had clarified the issues of a group of Gambians who had demonstrated against his government, whom he described as Gambian UDP. This reference did not go down well with the Secretary General and Party Leader of UDP and consequently reacted to President Barrow, a reaction currently circulating in both conventional as well as social media platforms.
However, one thing which remains crystal clear in the reactions of the UDP Leader and Secretary General’s comments is the fact that President Barrow was once an Executive Member who had substantial knowledge of the Modus Operandi of the UDP. Having heard this from the party leader himself about President Barrow and UDP by any measure of reason, provides substantial ground to qualify President Barrow to be able to say something substantive in and about UDP including and not limited to what he had said about the UDP demonstrators at the UN General Assembly Meeting in New York, the 3 Years Jotna Group of both 2019 and 2020, as well as the one purportedly said to be in the making for 11th November, 2022. Besides, the Gambia is relatively a very small country in terms of numbers where everybody tends to know anybody. To this effect, one can safely conclude that the partisanship of almost all the ring leaders in these Anti-government organizations remains an open secret and here in is laid the truth of what President Barrow had said.
His Excellency, the president of the Republic reiterated the need to inform the Gambian people once again, that they were well represented at this year’s UN General Assembly Meeting, held in New York in the United States of America. That he is also happy to report that the Gambian Team had the recognition of their peers in the Conference and had commanded the respect of the American Government and other World Leaders. His team received a special invitation of President Biden in closed door meetings with other highly respected African Heads of State and held important sideline meetings with the Heads of important Global Bodies on behalf of the Gambian People and in the interest of our dear motherland.
Much as the resolute stand, determination and commitment of the Barrow Administration is, to move the development agenda of this country forward, we are also fully aware that in a democratic environment, there are bound to be dissenting voices even if we were to pave the roads with silver or diamond, such voices will continue to be so. Typical in this regard is to compare the achievements of the Gambia in road construction for the combined period of the first and second Republics amounting 800 km of tar whereas Barrow at the end of his first five-year term is rated 600 km, most of which have already been completed while some are ongoing. It is for this and related reasons that the people deserve respect to be told the truth.
In the light of this clarification, President Barrow has taken yet another opportunity once more to assure progressive Gambians across the political divide, that contrary to divisive tactics, ill-conceived maneuvers and the endless string of disinformation being spread by some opposition leaders, the Gambia is regarded today as one of the most democratic countries in Africa by the international community. This is evident by the presence of international systems and the unprecedented proliferation of civil society organizations (CSOs) currently in the Gambia with clearly expressed willingness and desire to work with, under or alongside the current dispensation.
Although we are a very small country with a poor natural resource base and very limited economic opportunities compared to almost every other country in Africa, despite this, the NPP led government wants to assure the Gambian public once more that they have elected an honest and efficient government to power, and that is why this country now occupies the biggest spot in the international community than it ever had. The unfortunate incidence of deaths involving people mostly at the family level or associated social relationship of a kind in the recent past, shall soon be a thing of the past as the security forces are being put on high alert for this task. In addition, a lot of Peace Building endeavour and strategy by critical partners shall soon be roll out with their resultant benefits to society.
The UDP Leader and Secretary General in the said reaction and on a number of issues such as youth unemployment, seemingly appeared to have gone on leave elsewhere away from the Gambia that might have been responsible of him not knowing and not appreciating all the focus that the Barrow administration is giving to the youth sector. Are you not aware Mr Party leader, of all the recent expansions and new creations being done at the University of the Gambia and its satellite institutions? UDP’s Secretary General, didn’t you hear about the new policy direction and targets of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology for the production of Home-grown engineers and Skills acquisition from regionally specialized TVET Centres across the country? Honourable Secretary General and Party Leader of UDP, where were you when the Young Scorpions were doing what they did, or do you think that these achievements had only fallen from the sky or had come from nowhere? A N M Ousainou Darboe, when did you last visit your native region of CRR, not to have seen or appreciate the trunk road from Lameng Koto to Pasamas or the numerous Bridges across the country? Secretary General and Party Leader of UDP, don’t you know that all these are positively impacting on the good lives of the Gambian People and for this reason, they value them so much?
Having realized that the Secretary General and Leader of UDP does not or could not appreciate these National Development Giants, I want to take this opportunity to appeal to the Respectable Members of the media to inform the Honourable Party Leader of UDP that this year, a major United Nations Report ranked the Gambia 3rd HAPPIEST, MOST PEACEFUL AND SAFEST COUNTRY in Africa, after Mauritius and Ghana and this achievement needs to be safeguarded and celebrated. It might be necessary to show amazement that in 30 years, the UDP leader had never publicly appreciated the good achievements of the health facilities of the previous regime until now, which he described as death traps. Respectable Members of the media, could you again kindly remind the Honourable Secretary General and Party Leader of UDP that his UTTERANCE TO DESTABILIZE this country is as fresh in the minds of his own party supporters, as it is in the minds of the rest of the citizenry and all residents of the Gambia. I want to let the said UDP’s leader to know that President Barrow and his entire party and government are Democrats who do not know any alternative to Democracy such as MacChavellians do. However, to the extent of the truth in this assertion is also our believe in our collective commitment to the Defence of our sovereignty and Constitutional obligation, for which the President as well as cabinet took oath.
If the negative news the detractors are spreading about the government of the Gambia in the news media on a daily basis is true, it would have been crystal clear that our international development partners would not have so much confidence in our governance system.
The Gambia is a resource disadvantaged country compared to its many other neighbours with vast mineral and natural resources but we are striving hard and taking our pride of place in the global community. Yes, the Gambia has challenges but these are not of our making. These are the problems of the world now impacting on us because we are part of the interconnected world. The important thing however is that we are not relenting as a government until we are able to create the enabling political and socio-economic environment in which every Gambian shall realize his or her fullest potentials.
The Gambia has achieved a lot under President Adama Barrow that we can all be proud of in all spheres of life. We should not allow a few disgruntled elements in our midst to turn us into a sad nation when, the rest of the world envy us for our national unity, peace and happiness. In the global political dialogue now, considerations for national peace, happiness and safety are taking over economic and financial indicators in the conversation about progress and wellbeing. We are already ahead of many countries in that. We are in the front seat in this on the world stage and Government is trying all it could to ensure that we remain on that trajectory.
In conclusion, the NPP Government and its Allied Partners wish to assure Gambians that you have elected a highly committed government in power which is comprised of your own sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, uncles and aunts, brothers and sisters, niece and nephews, who are manning the positions and require your continuous support and confidence to take this country to the next level. God has given us a great country but now more than ever, in these times of global difficulties, we should come together as one people to confront our challenges with the strength of unity and courage. As Dr, Kwame Nkrumma ever told Ghanians – ‘a planted seed takes time to germinate before sprouting into the glorious foliage which finally becomes visible”. May I finally remind the Secretary General and Party Leader of UDP that apart from crystalizing the truth on anti-government demonstration led UDP members to which he responded vehemently, President Barrow had also opened an avenue for collaboration and partnership and I am surprised that the Honourable Party Leader and Secretary of UDP only provided zero response to this invitation. Needless to mention that no one will drop from the sky to take this country to where it should and for this reason, President Barrow has opened his arms with absolute readiness to embrace anyone be it an individual, a group or a party including UDP in the spirit of National Reconciliation and Sustainable National Development. As religious believers in Islam and Christianity, let us unite and work hard and put all our trust in the Creator of the Universe, who alone has the power to salvage us from the current undesirable Global Trends and this in my view, is the truth that the People in respect deserved to be told.
President Barrow Summons Emergency Cabinet Meeting on
AKI Deaths in The Gambia
State House, Banjul, 14th October 2022: President Adama Barrow said the recent Acute
Kidney Injury (AKI) outbreak in the country is a challenging time for the government, families,
and the people, and called on all to close ranks to come out of the crisis better prepared. He made
the call during an emergency Cabinet meeting he summoned on Thursday, 13th October 2022, for
an update on the 66 plus AKI deaths associated with contaminated Indian-made syrups imported
into The Gambia in June this year.
According to updates, as of 13th October 2022, the number of AKI deaths related cases has risen
to 70, and all may be linked to the use of the said contaminated drugs.
The President was emphatic that his government is determined to unearth the details of the cases,
as “the children died in unusual circumstances.”
Accordingly, a directive was issued to open criminal investigations. The ongoing police
investigations have established the importer, licensee and quantity of, drugs imported in June
2022. Atlantic Pharmaceuticals Company Limited brought into the country a consignment of
50,000 units of medicinal syrup, of which the Health Authorities recalled over 41,000. However,
over 8,000 units are still unaccounted for.
The probe established that the Medicine Control Agency – MCA was established by the
Medicines and Related Products Act 2014. At the time it started product registration in 2017,
there were thousands of unregistered products in the country. This was due to a lack of testing
facilities in The Gambia and the exorbitant cost involved in outsourcing the testing. However,
Cabinet was informed that the World Bank has agreed to establish a medicines and drugs testing
facility in The Gambia.
Furthermore, there is an ongoing international medical investigation in collaboration with the
World Health Organisation (WHO), and the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) of the United
States of America and Africa, looking into the medical causes of the AKI deaths among children
in The Gambia and related medical matters.
Having received an in-depth briefing on the AKI death cases, Cabinet concluded by setting up a
broad-based Commission of Inquiry, whose terms of Reference and Composition will be gazetted
shortly.
The government is playing an important role in trying to reduce the price of rice in the market as there is duty free for rice as far as government is concerned. There is also subsidies in the price of rice by government.
The lasting solution is the roots project that government is implementing to growth rice to feed the population and further export it to the international market for foreign reserve. Government is doing all it can to bring them the price of rice in the market.
Soon price of rice will be down but compared it to other countries we have better market price of rice in the world.

NPP Deputy Spokesperson Responds to Allegations That He Told People Bob Keita’s Paternity Test is Positive And That He Will Be Found Guilty
I am saddened by a particular post forwarded to me by a comrade. In that Facebook post, a person made serious false allegations against my person. For your information, I am currently out of The Gambia for some time now and will return after a few days.
I have not even been following developments of the Bob Keita case. I have Bob Keita’s village native and relative as one of my loyal and dependable employees for years. I have known Bob Keita for some time as well. With regard to his ex-wife, I do not know her, her relatives or even friends.
I have never and ever engaged in any discussion with anyone with regard to the said case. I do not know or have contact with any member of both legal teams and or officials . This is ill-intended and politically motivated to create seeds of discord within our party ranks and membership but they will woefully fail in their wicked plot.

Is Madi Jobarteh Insane or What?
At some point I thought that Madi Jobarteh is a rational human being but apparently the guy has lost some screws. The so-called human rights activist doesn't understand that rights come with responsibilities. We cannot condone indecent conduct under the banner of freedom.
Madi is calling on the IGP to release comedian Muhammed Darboe who recently insulted the First Lady. The rights activist believes that manaic Darboe didn't do anything wrong. Where in the world is a person allowed to insanely insult authorities at will? And you call that freedom and rights? To hell with such freedoms and rights!
Mr Darboe is mannerless and so is Madi for supporting such an irresponsible act from a man whose sole mission is to tarnish the image of the First Family. Such irresponsibility cannot and will never be accepted. Therefore, Mr Jobarteh should shut up and advice his man to learn how to respect authorities. !
You either respect the law or consumed by the law. We must respect the law. What is the essence of being so rude and indiscipline to president and his government.
The symptom of your way or no one way must end this country.
Join me Congratulate Honorable Mr Saihou Mballow for his Well deserved New Appointment as Special Political Adviser to HE President Adama Barrow. Hon. Saihou Mballow stand against injustice and tiranny from day one. Your stand for the country not an individual or a party interest is clearly manifested. You deserve National Hero medal 🏅
The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Medicines Control Agency and The Gambia Red Cross Society today commenced the Medicines Recall of Paracetamol syrups, Promethazine syrups, and Cough syrups. The public is cooperating and the exercise is progressing smoothly. We thank our partners WHO Gambia for the support. The Recall exercise will continue for the next 5 days. We call on individuals, religious leaders, and families to continue the discussions and encourage households to continue cooperating with our teams.
STATEMENT: POLICE SET UP AN INVESTIGATION PANEL INTO THE DEMISE OF SIXTY-SIX CHILDREN.
Following the demise of sixty-six children whose horrific deaths are largely associated with Acute Kidney Injury, The Gambia Police Force Sets up an investigation panel to immediately probe into the matter to identify those responsible for such an irreparable loss and hold them adequately accountable.
As an institution responsible for internal security and the protection of lives and properties, we are duty-bound to address such compelling issues that are capable of compromising the peace and security of this Nation.
In our bid to swiftly respond to this national security issue, the office of the Inspector General of Police has constituted an investigation panel consisting of senior police officers with the prerequisite knowledge and relevant skills relating to this important matter at hand.
While the general public is assured of our ardent resolve of exhausting all accountability measures, we call for calm and restraint in this difficult time.
It is only ousainou Darboe who is happy the death of others, president Barrow is giving you statistics of what exactly happened and he made it clear in his speech that he is in condolence with the brave families. You must be very stupid. how can you be the president and like 66 death babies. Does that make sense.
It is ousainou Darboe who is happy because some people are death
What’s on Gambia- TABLOID News Outlet.
As Gambians expressed condolences and sympathy to the families of the tragic deaths of 66 children due to kidney injury linked to contaminated paracetamol syrup from India pharmaceutical companies, instead of looking for a solution to the matter like what all responsible Organization- WHO, Governments and individuals are doing, What’s on Gambia is busy engaged in cyberspace politicizing the tragic deaths. What’s on Gambia is a gossip tabloid news outlet. It is time that the Gambian government to introduce cyberspace and digital policy. This policy will be to encourage responsible state behavior in cyberspace and advance policies that protect the infrastructure of the internet services, and maintain peace and stability and uphold democratic values.
I remember the time you brought those ambulances in the country everyone was praising you are a hero thank you minister of health
Just look at it desperate activate madi he always based in the negative side do you think read it Gambian‘s are sleeping do you think we are going to listen people like you you don’t have a good intention for this country you never come out talk about development that’s why you are always fail UDP
Mr Gibba the fight against corruption is what government is doing on an hourly basis as it is one of the reasons why government brings in the GPPA bill yo the national assembly for it to be adopted and ratified inorder to curb corruption and ensure transparency in all government institutions.
I agree with you on those giving bad images of the Gambia just like what's on Gambia and on the 66 babies who died of acute kidney injury will sure interrogated by Allah.
Those who made the country pathetic are those who ard abusing the democracy and the freedoms that president of the Republic has given to the Gambian people.
This barrow government is one of the best government in the history of the Gambia weather are you like it or not Let us say the truth only the truth shall remain we do you forget what yaya Jammeh government did here using their powers killing innocent people today you are standing criticizing President Barrow on a issue which he should not be blame
President Barrow knows that Dr Samateh is hardworking minister and ministry of health cannot get better minister different from him. His achievements in the health sector speak for themselves.
Do Samateh is not only doing an excellent job in health but transforming and improving the health sector significantly.
Stop peddling false news What is on Gambia page, everyone knew the police will not hunt Ba Kawsu Fofana or his disciple irresponsible statement towards President Barrow because people have the brains to understood that guy was just making drama. How many times Ba Kawsu Fofana insults President Barrow and walking freely? If Ba Kawsu is arrested by the police, it most be related to the very person you talked about behaviour towards Sheikh Musa Saidy. Their irresponsible act of trespass on him most be the reason behind the arrest but not that stupid guy's irresponsible statement. Stop misleading people, it's not good.
Kindly join me in congratulating this fine gentleman on his appointment as the deputy adviser, national youth affairs at the Statehouse.
Your appointment has ushered in the much needed hope and confidence.
I have no doubt in my mind that you will deliver beyond expectations.
Congratulations Lamin K Saidy
STATEMENT BY
HIS EXCELLENCY, THE PRESIDENT OF
THE REPUBLIC, MR. ADAMA BARROW,
ON THE DEATH OF CHILDREN FROM
ACUTE KIDNEY INJURY
7 th OCTOBER 2022
Fellow Gambians,
Residents of The Gambia,
In July of this year, the Ministry of Health detected
an unusual rise in the number of cases of diarrhea
and vomiting among children under the age of five
within the six health regions of the country, in
areas affected by flash floods.
Many of the children infected later developed
Acute Kidney Injuries (AKI), resulting in the
untimely death of sixty-six (66) children within the
last three months, even though they had the best
medical attention and care available.
Various laboratory tests conducted on the samples
from the victims show that bacteria are the likely
cause of their deaths. Doctors noticed a trend
among the patients, which indicate that some of
them had taken similar drugs. This suggests a link
between the Acute Kidney Injuries and the drugs,
as detected in some other countries.
Acting on this evidence, the Ministry of Health
issued a statement to suspend the use of the
suspected drugs. After receiving the first test
results, the Ministry also ordered an immediate
recall of the drugs from all pharmacies and
households.
Fellow Gambians,
Residents of The Gambia,
The Ministry of Health has since been working
closely and relentlessly with the World Health
Organization (WHO) and the Centre for Disease
Control of the United States of America (CDC) on
this matter. Investigations are in progress, and we
hope that they will get to the bottom of the
outbreak soon.
With the support of WHO, the Ministry sent the
drug samples to laboratories in Senegal, Ghana,
France, and Switzerland for further investigation.
The results received on Thursday, 6 th October 2022
confirm contamination of four of the samples.
I commend the Ministry of Health for their
diligence, particularly for the early detection of the
outbreak and their sustained investigative efforts
and control strategies. Due to their timely
intervention and the support of our partners, the
outbreak is now under control, with only two cases
reported in the last two weeks.
Fellow Gambians,
Residents of The Gambia,
I must state that the child mortality figure of sixty-
six (66) is not at much variance with the recorded
data for similar periods in the past. This
notwithstanding, my government remains deeply
concerned about every death in the country, as
well as all causes of premature deaths.
In view of this unfortunate incident, I direct, for
immediate action, that:
the Ministry of Health works with the
Attorney General’s Chambers to review and
update the Medicines and Related Product Act,
the Pharmacy Council Act and all other related
legislative frameworks and regulations;
the Ministry of Health collaborates with all
relevant partners and stakeholders to
strengthen its detection capabilities and
establish a quality control national laboratory
for drugs and food safety; and,
in collaboration with relevant partners and
stakeholders, the Ministry of Health
investigates the source of the contaminated
drugs, the circumstances and procedures for
importation of medicines into the country and
establish safeguards to eliminate the
importation of sub-standard drugs.
Already, the World Bank is supporting the
Government, and steps have been initiated to
establishing a quality control laboratory at the
Medicine Control Agency.
Fellow Gambians,
Residents of The Gambia,
I assure you all that the Government will leave no
stone unturned to get to the bottom of this incident.
I urge you, however, to be vigilant enough to
ensure that all medicines sold or used are safe and
effective. We owe it to the nation and to ourselves
to protect the lives of every citizen and resident of
the country.
In the meantime, my thoughts and prayers are with
the families that have lost their loved ones. Loss of
life is always a sad moment, especially when it
involves tender lives. We regret the loss of each of
the sixty-six (66) children and pray that Allah
consoles the bereaved families.
I thank you for your attention.
