We often get contacted about children with eye problems, many of whom have gone undiagnosed and untreated for weeks or even months. Even more so now with the restrictions due the COVID-19 pandemic.
These serious conditions left untreated can lead to serious problems later in life, with some of them leading to permanent disability for your child. We encourage all parents, in addition to yearly follow-ups, to follow their gut instinct and get a check-up with a pediatric ophthalmologist in case they notice any changes to their childrenโ€™s eyes.
Examples include irritation and pink eye, running eyes, itchiness, bumps on the eyelids, squinting of crooked eyes, and white reflex instead of the normal red reflex in a photo. Most of these conditions require medical attention, and some of them even surgical treatment.

Nothing better to quick start the year than with a presentation on the challenges in retina surgery in children at the conference in Athens January 2022.
Thank you Greek VitreoRetinal Society for the invitation! It was a pleasure to present and a pleasure to be surrounded by so many talented colleagues and presenters.

14th of November is World Diabetes Day established to bring awareness to the illness that affect 537 million people globally.
In fact, diabetes is the leading cause of vision loss in people 18โ€“64 years old! Perhaps the scariest part is that most of the time there are no obvious symptoms before sudden vision loss occurs.

Diabetics are at high risk for changes in eye, especially the retina (the inner segment of the eye) and it is therefore good news to know that an annual routine eye exam could prevent 95% of vision loss.

We highly encourages all diabetics to take control of their eye health and schedule yearly exams with their eye-care professional to control for changes in the retina. Here at our clinic we offer yearly exams, vitrectomy surgery for haemorrhage or retinal detachment, online consultations and OCT scans review.
