𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝗳𝘁 | 𝗱𝗮𝘀 𝗚𝗶𝗳𝘁 - 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗼 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁

If you have indeed clicked on play, you are currently being taken away by the ethereal sounds of Hand To Heart by The gift - das Gift, or Tg/dG for short. You may be wondering about the name, which is as unique as it gets. It’s a bilingual name that contrasts the English and the German meaning of the word “gift”: In one language, it is a “present” – in the other, “poison”. The band aims to represent the duality of all things with their music. I marvel at the ingenuity of their band name to convey exactly that.

You are listening to the beautiful voice of Artemis Schubert, the creative mind who writes all the music for the band. I have had the pleasure of talking with Artemis about her creative process. I was intrigued by the ephemeral nature of her songs; how they seem easy to grasp but at the same time wispy and nebulous. When Artemis told me that she primarily writes her songs in a state of being half-asleep and half-awake, it immediately made sense to me. This is music on the threshold – the threshold of night and day, of waking and sleeping, of here and beyond. It is mesmerizing music that lives in its own, unique space, beckoning us in and inviting us to stay a while.

The lyrics of Tg/dG are just as evanescent as its music. Images are conjured before our eyes, feelings conveyed, associations made. Nothing that is ever too literal or exact. Enough to invoke ideas, but never so much as to dictate them. You, as the listener, are encouraged to take part in the mystical process of meaning making, just as you would make out a shape in the half-light of a darkened room.

The EP that is currently available is Artemis’ solo work in collaboration with a producer. In the meantime, Artemis has been joined by five other band members and is embarking on writing for this new ensemble. Hand To Heart is such an astounding debut EP that shows a huge amount of potential just waiting to be realized, so I’m sure you will share in my excitement that they will be recording more material soon. We’ll be closely watching The gift | das Gift, eager to hear new music by Artemis. If you feel the same, don’t forget to follow them on their socials and the streaming service of your choice!

Οι The gift - das Gift (Tg/dG), goth/psych folk/alternative συγκρότημα με έδρα την Αθήνα (2023) αναζητούν ντράμερ.

Λίγα λόγια για μας: Είμαστε πέντε (φωνή, κιθάρα, μπάσο, βιολί, πλήκτρα), έχουμε κάνει το πρώτο λαηβ τον Ιανουάριο του 2024, όπου παρουσιάσαμε και το πρώτο EP, που κυκλοφόρησε 26 Ιανουαρίου.

Ο βασικός μας στόχος αυτή τη στιγμή είναι οι ζωντανές εμφανίσεις για την παρουσίαση του υλικού μας και η σύμπραξη με αλλά σχήματα. Μελλοντικά μας ενδιαφέρει να ηχογραφήσουμε και να ολοκληρώσουμε τον πρώτο δίσκο μας (το υλικό υπάρχει ήδη).

It has been a long journey leading to this moment and I cannot find words to describe the feeling, now that it is here..

Our first (pun intended) single/EP "Hand To Heart" is taking its first steps in the world and I'm holding my breath, waiting to see, where it will lead us..

I want to thank most of all C-Drain for his work, his dedication, his guidance and patience during the production of these songs.

I also want to thank Frisbi for his artistic input on the piano.

And finally I want to thank my bandmates, my partners in crime, who are working hard as we speak, so that we can give life to our songs on stage.

I don't know what the future holds for us but I hope that somehow things will find their way.
