Si pensi che nell’antica Grecia, l’ospitalità nei confronti dello straniero era considerata come un rito sacro, la xenia. La xenia (in greco antico: ξενία, xenía) esprime il concetto dell’ospitalità e dei rapporti tra ospite e ospitante nel mondo greco antico, per il quale assumeva un aspetto assai rilevante. Era infatti un dovere per i greci ospitare coloro che chiedevano ospitalità.
