As teachers we spend ages marking students’ writing. Yet we often find ourselves wondering: ‘Is this effective?’ ‘Am I helping my students in the best way possible?’

In this practical workshop, we are going to look at four samples of real student texts. In each case you will be asked to comment on what you think of the student’s efforts and what feedback you would give. We are then going to look at some feedback for each of them and discuss how we can improve it.

At the end we are going to distil four key principles that should guide us whenever we in turn have to guide students towards becoming more effective writers.

✎ A significant turnout of colleagues was observed at the 𝑵𝑶𝑪𝑵 𝒔𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒓 𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝑻𝒓𝒊𝒑𝒐𝒍𝒊 on the 4th of November 2023. The seminars, conducted by the esteemed educators Vicky Kaperoni and Nikos Michelioudakis, were exceptionally informative for educators and language school owners.

They focused on the topic of 𝒅𝒚𝒔𝒍𝒆𝒙𝒊𝒂 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒅𝒔 in classrooms of the future and also received updates on the NOCN English language certification from the examining body itself, which highlighted how it aligns with the demands of the modern era and the needs of today's students.

In addition, there was a session for union-related updates by the executive board of the PALSO. The day concluded with a delightful meal, providing an opportunity for colleagues to exchange thoughts and ideas in a more relaxed setting.

Overall, it was a beautiful and constructive day for Foreign Language School Owners of Arkadia.
