Burns Night is celebrated every year on 25 January in honour of Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns. The Ayrshire poet and lyricist is still regarded as the most prominent poet to have written in the Scots dialect. Alongside his literary contributions, Burns gained fame for his numerous love affairs and radical political leanings, expressing sympathy for the French and American revolutions.
Burns Night, or Burns Supper, is traditionally celebrated with a dinner consisting of haggis, neeps, and tatties - more commonly known as turnips and potatoes. This event has endured for 200 years and continues to be celebrated today. It is a place where the past and the present come together and create a celebration that resonates with the spirit of Scotland.
One of the hallmark of Scottish traditions is the Ceilidh dancing. This type of dance has derived from the Old Time dances and couple dances that found their way onto the Scottish dance floor in the 19th century. Originally the word Ceilidh (kay-lee) descended from the Gaelic word which translates approximately to ‘a visit’ or ‘a gathering’. An important feature is its accessibility, with just about anyone - young or old, experienced dancers to beginners - being able to get up and join in with minimal instruction.
Wishing all of our IMS College, Strathclyde community and friends around the world a Happy New Year! 🎈

“Economic Analysis for Strategists” intensive seminar took place the weekend - 16th and 17th December 2023 – directed face-to-face by Dr. Alex Dickson and hybrid by Professor Simon Roberts in Strathclyde’s Greek Centre – International Management Studies.
It was a fruitful weekend with plenty presences not only physically but virtually too. Both days were filled with constructive discussions, individual-group work and obviously pleasant moments full of laugh. Our MBA students were positively inspired and started to get into the necessity of EAS as well as prepared for their upcoming assessment.
Upon successful completion of “Economic Analysis for Strategists” students will:
1. understand the key influencers of profit in a business: production conditions on the supply side and the nature of demand
2. learn about a range of decisions and constraints businesses face in a market environment
3. understand the impact of market structure and competition on profitability
4. gain command of the issues associated with entering foreign markets
5. appreciate the impact of competition policy on business activity
6. develop an ability to apply this thinking to contemporary business issues.
Overall, this module aim to equip students with a toolkit to augment their judgement when considering business strategy within existing markets and entering new markets.
This year’s “Economic Analysis for Strategists” intensive weekend is about to launch the upcoming weekend, on 16th and 17th December 2023.
The class will be directed by Dr. Alex Dickson face-to-face in Strathclyde Greek Centre – International Management Studies in the region of Chalandri, Athens.
Many business decisions involve an assessment of the market landscape to understand how to evaluate the decision. The tools of microeconomics lend a rigorous approach to understanding the nature of the market and the completion therein. This involves an understanding of the demand conditions the firm cases, the completion on the supply side and the policy framework.
Markets can often be highly complex and judgement can be clouded by this complexity. By taking an approach based on microeconomic analysis, students will learn to undertake a meticulous and “emotionless” approach to analyzing opportunities in existing and new markets and the potential these hold.
The class introduces students to microeconomic concepts and develops an understanding of the link between the features of market environments and the ability of businesses to make profit by investigating this through the lens of microeconomics.

In addition, it introduces them to multiple experiential learning and teaching approaches to help them engage with and develop responses to strategic problems in the world. “Accounting & Financial Management” intensive seminar took place the weekend - 18th and 19th November 2023 – directed face-to-face by Dr. Yu-Lin Hsu and Dr. Livia Pancotto in Strathclyde’s Greek Centre – International Management Studies, Chalandri, Athens.
It was a fruitful weekend with plenty presences not only physically but virtually too. Both days were full of work and surprises. Our MBA students were positively inspired and started to get into the necessity of AFM as well as prepared for their upcoming assignments.
After its completion, we can summarize the following points highlighting the importance of “Accounting & Financial Management” in the real world. This module introduces to some of the fundamental methods, skills and techniques that all managers must use to effectively manage their organisations. AFM relates most closely to the day-to-day management of an organisation and this class provides a framework to assess how to use accounting and financial information to inform decision making. As such the class allows students to understand accounting and finance concepts from the perspective of the general manager.
The aim of the class is to develop an understanding of financial strategies including scenarios, modelling and identifying trends, to be able to apply economic theory to decision-making, to evaluate financial and non-financial information and last but not least to develop an understanding of financial governance and legal requirements.

This year’s “Accounting & Financial Management” intensive weekend is about to launch the upcoming weekend, on 18th and 19th November 2023.
Both Accounting & Finance sessions will be structured and offered by Dr. Yu-Lin Hsu and Dr. Livia Pancotto face-to-face in our IMS Greek Office, in the region of Chalandri, Athens.
The module provides an introduction to the principles of accounting and finance with a view to decision making. The first part of the module is designed to provide an understanding of accounting that is essential for any manager and to develop the ability to use accounting information for decision taking purposes. The focus will be on understanding the nature and limitations of the information provided in the financial reports and to ensure that managers appreciate the significance of the financial implications of any decisions or policy initiation being proposed. The second part of the module focuses on the principles of financial decision making. The primary focus of this part will be on the basic question of how a company should evaluate proposals to invest in additional assets.
AFM focuses on the accounting and finance aspects as an aid to decision making. The issues will be the primary focus and there will also be links to both business policy and strategy as well as risk management issues. Students should be able to make strategic recommendations for improvement in business performance. The overall background for this course is rooted in macro and micro economics and these will be alluded to.
University of Strathclyde is implementing this fall semester of 2023 a series of sessions called “Project Methodology” in order to facilitate all students for the Thesis process.
These classes will be run by Strathclyde’s team of Thesis supervisors both face-to-face and hybrid to everyone who wish to start their projects.
Our Greek Centre launches today this module, which is going to be delivered by Dr. Harris Apostolopoulos.
The aim of “Project Methodology” is to provide a set of principles, tools and techniques that are used to plan, execute and manage projects. In addition, it allows controlling the entire management process through effective decision making and problem solving, while ensuring the success of specific processes, approaches, techniques, methods and technologies. Typically, a project methodology provides a skeleton for describing every step in depth, so that students will know what to do in order to deliver and implement the project thesis according to a certain chosen field.
