Dear Friend.

Mr. Roy Geddes is kindly asking your association to pay a visit to the Roy Geddes
Steel Pan Museum. It has been in existence for a number of years. Mr. and Mrs. Roy.
Geddes are in charge of the Museum.

I would like to list some of my achievements over the years of my life to development and excellence of steel pan art form, not seasonal but fulltime, also I am the recipient of the two National Awards Medal of Service in 1971, and Golden Arrow of Achievement in 1996 for my excellent and sterling contribution to Guyana as Steel Drum Musical Technologist, Pan Tuner, Arranger, Player and Social Worker among the youths who were associated with the Roy Geddes Silvertones.

Here is a short description of the Steel Pan Museum; it features a photographic display of steel band highlights throughout the years in Guyana. There are also the names
of pioneers and demonstration of how the steel pan is made.

The importance of the Steel Pan Museum is to preserve the history of the art form so that future generations can have authentic information about it.

Mission: The Commercialisation and the respectability of the artform

My respect and love for the steel band artform has led me to establish the Roy Geddes Pan Museum. The importance of the Museum is to preserve the history of the artform, so that future generation can have authentic information about it.

My main objective was to provide employment and a decent income for the members of my
Band.

The Roy Geddes Silvertones Steel Orchestra was very helpful to the members of the Band. Over the years they were taught discipline, patriotism and a sense of responsibility. It helped to see some of them through school and also a trade to better their lives.

The only non-electronic musical instrument to be invented in the 20th century was the Steel Pan.

Pan never remains static, the zest for experiment and development still continues.

A master tuner at work is a fascinating sight. Great concentration and a highly skilled workmanship.

Pan tuning is a science, the logistics of tuning. Tone quality and loudness of the notes.

To have a good effect blending of the instruments would eventually determine the coordination of the Orchestra. (Fine tuning) is very important.

In order for young people to be successful they must form good habits, and we the older ones must set a good example.

Guidance is not dictatorship (self-discipline is love). True leaders never forget from whence they came and live to bring others to where they are (God is good). Unity is concentration of ideas for development.

It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you, but if you trust the Lord you are safe. (God is good) The Lord is my strength!
