OpenAI’s new model GPT-4o can teach maths and flirt 14/05/2024

New version of Chat-GPT can teach maths and flirt

It’s called GPT-4o, and it will be rolled out to all users of ChatGPT, including non-subscribers.

It is faster than earlier models and has been programmed to sound chatty and sometimes even flirtatious in its responses to prompts.
The new version can read and discuss images, translate languages, and identify emotions from visual expressions. There is also memory so it can recall previous prompts.

It can be interrupted and it has an easier conversational rhythm - there was no delay between asking it a question and receiving an answer.

We have seen chatbots like Elon Musk’s Grok and Pi, from DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman, prioritise the “personality” of their products, but the way in which GPT-4o seamlessly handled the combination of text, audio and images with an instant response appears to put OpenAI ahead of the competition.

There have been rumours about a partnership between OpenAI and Apple and while this has not yet been confirmed, it was telling during the presentation that Apple products were used throughout.

Another shot across the bows was the timing of this event, 24 hours before its rival Google is due to show off its latest AI developments at its annual conference, Google IO.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) To Leapfrog Productivity, Raise Competitiveness and Boost Profits 19/04/2024

Artificial Intelligence (AI) To Optimise Productivity, Raise Competitiveness & Boost Profits
~ by Dr. YKK, a senior consultant of AI University

● There has been an intense publicity in the media about the importance of companies adopting AI in their operations.

However, most companies do not see the urgency of prompt action nor the opportunity to use AI to stand above their competition overseas. Acting now, is crucial for their business's continued survival and growth.

The Malaysian government is at the forefront of the AI revolution with its policies and various initiatives. Hopefully, this time, these initiatives will synch with the implementation from its industries, particularly, a warm reception from its SMEs.

● Some of the benefits of AI to industries in Malaysia.
● Grants available for AI implementation and other industry innovations.
● The Top 5 Private Universities to study Artificial Intelligence in Malaysia.
● University
● International AI Association (IAA)

● AI is not just a trend; it's a transformative force.

While implementing AI comes with challenges, the potential benefits are undeniable. Companies that embrace AI early, stand to gain a significant competitive advantage.

The longer an industry waits, the higher the risk of falling behind and potentially becoming obsolete in the face of AI-powered innovation.

AI grading essays sparks ethical debates among experts 08/04/2024

AI grading essays sparks ethical debates among experts.

Both teachers and students are using the new technology. A report found half of college students used AI tools in Fall 2023.

Many schools do not have guidelines for teachers.

“It would not be right to upload the material into the AI without making the students aware of this in advance. And maybe students should need to provide consent.”

It’s still too early to understand how AI will be integrated into everyday life. He is also concerned that some administrators who don’t teach in classrooms may craft policy that misses nuances of instruction.

“Oversimplification is how bad policy is made.”

Universities must also be open to “regularly reevaluating as the technology and uses evolve.

AI is significantly changing job markets in 2024. Why is this good news for you?

We’re only a couple of weeks into 2024, but one thing’s already clear — the next 12 months will be the year when artificial intelligence (AI) moves from the margins to the mainstream.

“2024 will be the year that firms get serious about applying generative AI to their own internal data sources and making information and insights available to their employees to help them do their jobs even better.

Additional research from Digitate suggests 90% of IT decision-makers across all sectors plan to implement automation in the next year.

Forrester’s research suggests as many as 86% of US employees fear that many people will lose their jobs to AI and automation, and almost a third (31%) believe that trend will manifest during the next two to five years.

Bev White, CEO at Nash Squared, says the increased use of AI will lead to big changes in the job market, but it’s important not to jump to conclusions just yet.

She says the story of the introduction of automation — from the Industrial Revolution through to our present digital age — has always revolved around fears that jobs will be cut.

Even with increased levels of automation, companies will still need a human in the loop to ensure processes are completed effectively, such as dealing with more complicated customer service requests.

It’s important to remember that almost every implementation of technological innovation comes with a side order of fear.

“If you approach AI as, ‘It’s going to change the world, and it’s going to put people out of jobs,’ well, it isn’t — it’s actually going to create even more opportunity and jobs,” he says.

The Home Depot, the retail giant, has developed a machine learning-powered app, known as Sidekick, to boost staff productivity.

The app, which also uses computer vision, helps shop floor staff identify items in hard-to-find locations.

“It would be great if we can get people freed up from processes and allow them to be creative in their roles by taking advantage of emerging AI technology."

Artificial intelligence (AI) may help ease the staff shortage in the Visual Special Effects (VFX) industry.

It has already "changed the way films are made" according to Keitan Yadav a VFX producer and chief operating officer at Mumbai-based Red Chillies Entertainment.

"If I have to show a director a shot, I can create a scene with the help of AI - changes can be made without losing time," he says.

"Complex VFX-heavy scenes are using AI to quickly generate low resolution CGI [computer generated imagery] backgrounds, characters, effects simulations and camera motion. Within hours, not months, the final product can be seen and changes can be decided."

He thinks jobs will be lost as AI takes over in some areas, but other opportunities will arise.

"AI should be viewed as a powerful tool to enhance creativity, productive and quality rather than threat. It's simple - if 10 doors close, 100 will open."

Back in Trichy, one of the big thrills of being in the movie industry for Mr Sastha R is simple and low-tech.

"Staying in dark in a theatre, after most of the crowd leaves, and waiting to see your name rolling in the credits. It feels good!"

"A technical director mainly deals with creating elements that could not be made while filming... like creating a lava rain in a city, making rain freeze in air, or the moon melting - anything fantastical you can think of," he says.

The dragons in the fifth season of Game of Thrones were created in Mumbai.

While India has, for the last two years, had the fastest economic growth of any major economy, it is still at the lower end of the middle-income countries.

"VFX and animation courses are not easy on pocket. So, if we want to become the global hub, we should pay attention to the cost factor," says Mr Sharma.

He points out that it can cost thousands of dollars a year just to use some software packages used in creating visual effects.

His solution is to get big media and tech companies to shoulder more of the cost.

"It's not just the government's job to provide grants. Corporates should come forward to find a reasonable solution to provide the tools and technology on the educational level."

"Software should be available to students for educational purposes," says Mr Sharma.

The Robren Show (AI University Series): Everyone can be 10X faster and better with AI.
