Take me back to Mexico! My goodness, we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect family of 5. This session led by and .trancoso for retreat was just too perfect to put into words so sharing some photos here (that probably don’t do it justice).

So lately, Rye and the kids have been into basketball - nothing serious, just a whole lot of fun for them. So I thought of taking them to Choi Hung one morning so they can just play ball and goof around while I take photos (cuz I’m not athletic LOL).
When the kids started learning from the wonderful coaches at in the middle of last year, they didn’t start out loving it. I remember Amara crying almost every week because she didn’t want to go since she was horrible at it. Nick was ok doing it though he knew he wasn’t really wonderful at it. I’m not an awful mom who would force their kids to do something BUT I knew that I wanted them to stick to it for at least 1-2 terms so they can see the value of practice and discipline and, above all, that they can get better at something if they just put in the work.
This paid off and now they love it. The coaches and the culture they build are the cornerstone of it so I’m grateful. For me, they don’t have to be competitively good at it. If anything, I love seeing them so happy playing together. Being able to learn how to work in a team, getting themselves moving, picking themselves up again and again before actually getting it right, being gracious about losing and winning, learning how to be open to feedback to improve - all of these relevant skills are so much more important than winning or being amazing at it.

I can’t help but feel so much overflowing joy to have seen this family grow. From super fun and unforgettable maternity sessions (not just one but two!) to now a family of three. Seeing little R as a toddler - laughing, running and playing - makes my heart full. And his parents are the nicest people in the world. We always end up laughing our bellies out when we see each other.
Honestly, I’ve been pretty lucky with families who find me - I know I might not be as visible as others, but I must be doing something right because I connect deeply with the people in front of my lens. I know I’m far from being the best photographer but I know in my heart that I am 100% present and genuine.
So thank you for being so open, warm and kind to me. I hope I get to reflect it back in my own way. ❤️

I never knew I would be called to do “womanity”portraits (or what I’ve coined it). But I LOVE doing them.
I used to think being a woman is just plain too hard.
And it really is.
The only difference now is that I’ve learned to embrace everything about it and tap into this wonderfully - and even mysteriously - powerful feminine energy.
When I changed my perspective, I am just in awe of us women. We have all the things inside us - biologically, mentally, emotionally - that make us beautiful. Strong. Successful in more ways than one. Resilient. A deep well of love.
Despite of what is thrown at us.
Because of what is thrown at us.
So yes, I think I am in love with photographing women from all walks of life - different and unique in our own right but also the same in terms of the complexity of our roles, our struggles, our capacity for so much.

Rye and I were walking around this past weekend while we were in Singapore (just the two of us because it’s a work trip for both of us) and we talked about how we only have 5 years left (!!!) before Nick goes off to college and 10 years left before Amara does the same. And if you deduct the time they would choose to hang out with their friends over us, that period could easily be cut into half. We just looked at each other in silence and we were like dang - we need to make our time with them count so much more.

I will always make time for this family - I love them so much. So thankful that I get to witness them as a family of 3 and now soon to be 4. We left our afternoon up to the weather gods and just squeezed this shoot in as momma is about to give birth soon. We dug into the sand, kicked into the waves, and laughed at little T who kept picking his nose to see me burst out laughing and loving it. As soon as we ended the session, it started to rain gently and it all felt just as it should be.

“You alone are enough. You have nothing to prove to anybody.” -Maya Angelou
I have been trying my best to sneak in some more affirmations for my kids lately. I know how it feels like to have an inner voice that constantly says I’m not doing enough and it’s exhausting.
Having said that, I do find it hard to balance out affirmations with teaching them grit and resilience. Who here feels the same? I think I’ve been just counting on my momma intuition to discern which situations they need more of a push. But I know I can also refine my language even more so that I can ensure that their wellbeing and ambition are complementary to each other instead of being mutually exclusive.
Parenting well is tough, guys.

I learned so much from this particular beautiful motherhood storytelling session led by from retreat. I learned how to:
- Wield light in ways I would never have
- Thoughtfully add everyday things to tell a wonderful visual story
- Letting go so things can unfold as they should and take notice of the smallest of moments
- Love what I do even more and unapologetically do the work that speaks to me
I’m also ever so lucky to be part of her Intuitive Artist small group workshop so seeing everything she was teaching and sharing in the flesh through the retreat really helped me leaps and bounds. So thanks Nat - you are this radiant person that I can’t help but be drawn to and be inspired by. Before learning from you, I couldn’t put my finger on what exactly it is I wanted to do with my craft and it’s really weaving stories of love and connection for families. Thanks for sharing what you know and for shaping my journey (I’d like to say my photography journey but really I think me as a whole person) for the better.
So much more photos to share from this session with .griz and Lio. This session makes me want to do more motherhood and fatherhood shoots all the more.

There is so much beauty in the change of our female form and more so in the growth of a family’s story when adding in a new member.
And there is so much magic in this change.
Like probably a lot of you, I wondered how can I ever love another child equally to my first. Having another child taught me just how unconditional love is - how its sheer power lies in its ability to multiply and its selflessness. I can’t think of another element or force that can do this.
Amara actually just brought this up a couple of nights ago. She asked me before she slept if I had another baby, would I love that baby more than her. And I had to explain to her how a mother / parent loves their children in this special way. She couldn’t wrap her head around it. But accepted it.
This love is unthinkable - yet oh so true.

These colors 🧡❤️💚 until very recently, I was all about light neutral colors. I mean, they just go well with everything and everyone. But I find myself loving color nowadays. They’re so much fun to play with, especially when in Hong Kong where a lot of grayness can live 😅 But in all honestly, while I can suggest outfit colors and styles (and I love shopping through others), I realized that there is so much truth and authenticity to show up just as you are. At the end of the day, you and your kids will only remember the moments, the experience, the emotions — more than how you looked and what you wore.

Can you fall in love with a family?
I definitely did.
Second session for these 3 and love permeated every second of it. So much fun, so much joy. And I found my heart grow so much bigger witnessing them together. How wonderful that I get to bottle this up for them through photographs.

This pool in our Phuket resort gave off vintage was the warmest pool I’ve ever been in. It felt like a hot tub I swear. It was so warm, we had to have a lot of banana smoothies by the poolside just to cool down. The kids couldn’t complain. Smoothies, Marco Polo games and goofing around with the floaties. Lazy pool days will forever be a highlight of my kids’ childhood.
I’m doing two poolside minis soon.

This year, I really want to take photos that make me happy.
Aside from taking photos of my own children and women, I discovered that I really like showcasing Hong Kong’s diversity and cultural richness. Embracing my Chinese heritage and roots has been pretty healing for me.
So I’m just here, doing my part in sharing ourc East meets West stories when I can.
Still so surprised and thankful that my photos were chosen as part of the top 10 and honorable mentions for Click Pro Community’s Street Photography Category this year.

I remember my first session with Iris. I arrived at her doorstep and quickly realized it wasn’t her flat. She forgot to tell me she moved apartments between the time she booked me and the day of her shoot. I hurriedly went to her new place and went straight into our newborn session that has now led to her third session and a new baby.
I like the simplicity of our time together. We laughed so much this afternoon. I really enjoy their family of 4 plus beautiful devoted grandma who loves her daughter and her granddaughters. So plain to see. I connect with them so much. And that puffy head of hair on that baby? Unforgettable. I just wanted to keep touching her hair.
You bet I’m feeling lucky I have this job.

I have a lot of city sessions during this time of the year until June. It’s usually because of people leaving Hong Kong by the end of the school year and it’s one of the best things they can bring with them as they move on to their next chapter in life - memories of their home, neighborhood and their usual spots they share with their kids.
Even if you aren’t leaving, a neighborhood session is always a great choice. There is so much beauty in the everyday - whether along a bustling street or in a quiet pocket of this ever moving city. I like being the person looking in and observing how you take in and interact as a family with your surroundings, because we all respond so uniquely to what we see and hear.
What’s your favorite thing about Hong Kong?

I love that more and more I get to asked to do breastfeeding sessions. The intimacy of it. How empowering it feels as a woman that you get to nourish your child.
Brenda wanted to do this session as she reaches the tail end of her breastfeeding journey with her daughter. It was so adorable because little E just wanted to keep looking and smiling at me. I specifically loved how E would touch her mom’s custom made milk pendant and just look up at her beautiful momma.
Every baby touches their mom differently while they nurse. I remember Nick would rub my arms while Amara would rub my other b**b. I miss the quietness of it and the special connection we would have throughout the day.

All I can think of when I see these photos is the love radiating from everyone in the room. Little L is so so lucky to be surrounded by people who love and adore him.
I generally have a soft spot for grandparents and aunts/uncles who fly all the way to Hong Kong to visit and welcome the newest addition to their family. There was so much tenderness in the way they carry him and this look of pure love on their faces so plain to see to any passerby. I can’t blame them. L is just the sweetest baby ever.

I was actually inspired to do annual birthday shoots because of Lesley. I’ve done her sons’ birthday sessions since they were teeny. She would always just want to focus the sessions on the kiddos to document who they are, singularly, over the years.
I found that so beautiful.
I used to not take photos of my kids because I think I needed some separation from what work was and honestly, I hate being in photos myself so it’s not something I would do naturally. I would rather be in the moment with them.
BUT - as they grew, coinciding with how I understand more deeply why I was doing photography, I realized that:
1. Human memory is not infallible. At all. My memory would fail seeing them as a baby.
2. And they grow so so fast. I know everyone says this but my goodness, it’s so so true. And I think you really feel this more and more intensely as they get older.
3. I shouldn’t separate my personal work from professional work. I have found so much joy and inspiration in taking photos of my children. And that’s why you see them more on my feed. My love for photography has grown a thousandfold because of what it means to me as a mother.
So thank you Lesley - you set this whole wheel turning for me.

“In every possible answer, there should be another question.” -Wislawa Szymborska
This quote reminds me of how my thoughts flow when I’m by the water. Answers and questions would wash over me like waves.
The water will always be my happy place. There is magic in the sand and the waves - for the young and the old, for every emotion washing over you, for any season in life.

I mean to start doing annual birthday shoots for the kids starting this year. I feel so bad for missing their younger years but I’m trying to make up for the lack of intentional documentation of their childhood s - that’s why you see more photos of them now.
I don’t usually do these types of shoot but I thought Amara would enjoy it. She loved getting her hair and makeup done by the wonderful, kindhearted who was also kind enough to do mine so we can be twins for some photos :) Thank you to who was my associate photographer that day and took photos of us girls having some fun.
