From Secret Garden to Crazy Abstract ones...

Years ago I read "The Secret Garden" is a classic novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, first published in 1911. It tells the story of Mary Lennox, a neglected and sour-tempered girl who is sent to live with her reclusive uncle, Archibald Craven, at Misselthwaite Manor in England after the death of her parents. At the manor, Mary discovers a hidden, neglected garden that was once loved by her late aunt. With the help of a local boy named Dickon and her sickly cousin Colin, Mary brings the garden back to life. As they tend to the garden, the children's lives are transformed. They find joy, health, and a sense of belonging, illustrating the healing power of nature and friendship.

I created an original musical using the storyline & characters as inspiration.

The enchanting transformation of the hidden garden in "The Secret Garden" deeply inspired me to create my series "Crazy Abstract Gardens." Just as Mary, Dickon, and Colin infused new life into the forgotten garden, I sought to capture the vibrancy, chaos, and beauty of nature's regenerative spirit in my paintings. The novel's themes of renewal and the profound connection between humans and nature resonated with me, prompting me to explore the wild, untamed essence of gardens through bold colors, dynamic forms, and abstract interpretations. Each piece in the series reflects the magic and mystery of a garden reborn, inviting viewers to experience the same sense of wonder and transformation that captivated the characters in Burnett's timeless story.

A mixed media piece from the Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong has found a new home in Barcelona!!! Love that my work is travelling all over the world!!

My work 'Stream of Consciousness' was inspired by Buddhist Philosophy which emphasizes the interconnectedness of all things and the idea that everything is in a constant state of flux. This cosmic energy could represent the interconnectedness and flow of the universe, reflecting the Buddhist concept of impermanence and interdependence. By portraying this concept, I want my audience to feel a sense of connection to the universe and a recognition of their place within it.

I love the energy of working with charcoal as my starting point, to mark my territory if you will, then I have a great passion for colour (I painted the exterior of my home bright orange and every room has a clashing 2 colour theme...I also love to wear colour!) and I loved the vibrant turquoise that I chose for this peace which is dynamic in places and subtle in others. Much of my work is mixed media, I’m always on the lookout for exotic decorative papers that I can use in my work & interesting images to use as photographic transfers.

I have lived in Hong Kong for almost 40 years and am entranced by the aesthetics of Cantonese Opera. I live in Sai Kung and every year there is a live performance that takes place in a bamboo theatre, which is such a special and magical experience.
