[🤩William Mong Distinguished Lecture]

Professor Yonina Eldar of the Weizmann Institute of Science delivered the William Mong Distinguished Lecture👏 titled “Model Based Deep Learning: Applications to Imaging and Communications” on June 5, 2024. During the lecture, Professor Eldar discussed the limitations of deep neural networks🕸️due to their lack of interpretability and reliance on large training sets.

Professor Yang Lu of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and his team worked on the🔬research for the topic “Tuning instability in suspended monolayer 2D materials”. The research findings were recently published in📝Nature Communications.

Professor Dong-Myeong Shin of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and his team worked on the research for the topic🔋"Accelerated selective Li+ transports assisted by microcrack-free anionic network polymer membranes for long cyclable lithium metal batteries", a paper in Advanced Science💡. The research findings were recently published in Advanced Science.

THINKING BEYOND CONVENTIONS. How to produce innovative research? In this four-part series we learn from HKU’s leading scientists. Professor Zhiqin Chu works at the intersection of physics, engineering, medicine, chemistry, and biology, creates new industrial materials and nano-sensors from diamonds, and has patented multiple inventions. His main advice is to get over the fear of failure: “You need to accumulate a lot of failure, try a lot of different approaches, methods, plans. And - they can all fail!”
