Through the “Summer Weather” theme, our young children were able to continue to play and explore with various mark-making activities and sand play, whilst encouraged to experience and “have a go” with different materials. Children need lots of opportunities to develop their own play and independent exploration. They also need adults to ‘scaffold’ their learning by giving them just enough help to achieve something they could not do independently. Well done to our young playgroup learners and their parents/caregivers/facilitators - we hope you have enjoyed your summer camp with us!

We had a great time last week as we welcomed our little children to Summer Term! We explored real fruits, sang new songs, and played matching games to kick off the term. During our Explore and Express Time, the children enjoyed practising their glue-sticking skills by making summer fruit collages and popsicles. We will have more splashy water activities in the coming weeks as we look forward to having a joyful summer together!

We are beginning to find our rhythm back at Playgroup and we feel so grateful that we can meet together again. During our Explore and Express Time, we continued learning about our Transportation Theme. The children used green, red and yellow paper to tear into small pieces and created traffic lights. This exercise strengthens their little finger muscles and improves their fine motor skills. They also had great fun at our playdough table again using cutters, plastic knives and scissors to explore the playdough and develop their creativity!

We have truly missed our playgroup families these past few months and we are so thankful to be back together. We have begun our Transport Theme this week, which is always a big favourite of our children! During our Explore and Express Time, the children enjoyed painting and creating different transport pictures. They used templates and sponge stampings to create cars and trains. They also explored painting and mark making with spikey balls and brushes. The next theme is a fun one, and we can't wait to explore it!

The playgroup children and their families had an enjoyable time engaging with Ms Noelle, Ms Winny and Mrs Claire through songs, music and dance, storytelling and playful back-and-forth conversations. These online sessions will continue to run every Tuesday, from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM. If you and your friends have any pre-kindergarten aged children and are interested to join us —please register at the link below.

Literacy- the ability to read and write- is an emerging skill that begins at birth. Even infants and toddlers are on the road to literacy when they scribble with crayons or play with books, turning pages or pointing to pictures. These early signs of reading and writing are called emergent literacy.” (Hanen Early Language Program, 2010).

The children explored different ways to create Christmas themed art pieces. They had fun creating Christmas decorations and explored different mediums of colour from watercolour to paint Christmas tree artwork and Christmas lights. Surely all these bright and colourful creations will add to the Christmas atmosphere!
