Dear friends,

Thank you for your patience! We are ready for a small batch (40 books) of sale for Jelly’s Over the Rainbow. Here’s a synopsis of the story from Xin Ying:

***
Hello my friends! This is part of a multi-book series for nurturing values in your little ones and helping them develop their social skills such as kindness. This story is inspired by the kindness shown to me by my friends, teachers and counsellors in school. I've learnt that sometimes people are mean to others because they have, or are experiencing, an imbalance of power themselves, like the perpetrator in the book. But with a little bit of help and persuading from the perpetrator's friends, family and teachers, perhaps even the harshest person can turn over a new leaf.

Some snapshots of the book are in the pictures, swipe for preview! :) Each book is $18, plus an additional $3.20 for postage (Smartpac by Singpost).

We're receiving the first batch of books today!! *excited* Taking a moment to pause and give thanks to those who have so readily stepped forward to make a little (she looks quite tall now, but still little in my heart la) girl's dreams come true.

It has been 2 years since Xin Ying first started the book, and about a year since we've decided to self-publish it. It has been a learning journey for us both. This is probably the first (long) document that she fully typed into Word herself, transfer to Google doc, learnt to use a scanner and then a digital software to convert her sketches into print etc. But I think more significantly, it is the realisation that a seemingly faraway and childish dream can materialise, with some will and plenty of grace, that will stick with her for the longest time.

For me, I have been deeply moved by the grace and generosity of friends and strangers. Special mention to Jia Ying Tay Jiaying for being the project manager of this endeavour throughout this year, getting her friends onboard and keeping close communication with Xin Ying. You are truly the gift of friendship that keeps giving. To an extraordinary man in Fable, a stranger who has become a familiar name, for having an enormous a heart for a child to painstakingly work on the book layout during your personal time. To Eunice Huang Eunice, for editing the book and inspiring me years ago with your spontaneity to "just do it". There have been other angels, like Benjamin, RJ Paper and Xin Ying's friends from school, whom I scarcely know, but have gifted generously to this process; family members, Joseph and my parents, who have been steadfast in their support. My deepest gratitude to all.

Last but not the least, this is for the little girl, who doesn't look so little any more. For enduring my procrastination, for infecting me with your passion, for inspiring me with your endurance and perseverance - not only in this journey, but in a world of others where you feel different many a times, and have been having to learn the perspective of others in ways that breaks a mother's heart. We love you always.

If there is a corner in a party, you know that's where you'll find me. So this post, in a public page, is out-of-character. But this page would not be complete without due gratitude to the hard work, love and sacrifices of many others. In yet another difficult year, you have given meaning and hope, to a little girl, and her not-so-little mother. Thank you.

We will be selling the book, all proceeds will be donated. Stay tuned for more details later 🙂 Excited! Merry Christmas, everyone!

With love,
HM
