1. Bait the termite
In Singapore, the most common type of termite is the coptotermes, a species of the subterranean termite. The subterranean species build nest in the soil because they need ample amount of moisture to survive. This kind of termite species build mud tubes to work their way above-ground to search for food, often making their way to structures like homes and buildings. Underground baiting can be used for these kinds of termites.

2. Use termite-resistant polish
Termite-resistant and oil-based varnishes and polishes can help keep termites away from your wooden furniture. When applied liberally all over the furniture, especially on the base and legs, these polishes create a protective coat that’s hard and shiny.

3. Spray some neem oil.
Natural oils like neem oil can be used to control termites. Neem oil should be applied repeatedly on the wooden furniture till the termite colonies are completely destroyed. These oils inhibit termites’ ability to shed their skin and lay eggs. As a result, neem oil will kill termites over a longer period of time.
For a DIY termite-repellent, mix water with a few drops of dish soap. Add about 10 drops of neem oil. Shake up the mixture in a spray bottle, apply it to your wood furniture. This method works better for drywood termites than subterranean termites. Drywood termites are more likely to infest your hardwood furniture. Subterranean termites prefer soft spring wood.

4. Sprinkle boric solution
Boric acid is a less toxic, affordable way to kill termites. It affects their digestive system, dehydrates them, and kills them within a few days. Many commercial products use boric acid as the main ingredient because it’s so effective. Boric acid works equally well for subterranean and drywood termites. Mix 1 spoon borax powder with 250 ml warm water and spray it on the termite infested wooden furniture. Wear a mask while handling borax as it releases harmful gases
