Bray Beach Aurora, Panorama, 10/10/2024. Bray Co.Wicklow, Ireland.
Yet another of my images of the aurora over Bray beach, looking north at the harbour end. This one surprised me while in the editing process, even though there was a lot visible to the naked eye at the time, what the sensor was able to capture with a long exposure exceeded my expectations.

Bray Bandstand Aurora 10/10/2024.
Never thought I'd ever see aurora in Ireland, I missed the display in May too. I was delighted to get the chance to see the lights again earlier this month, I couldn't believe how much I could see with the naked eye, even with light pollution. Being able to make images in my hometown added an extra sprinkle of magic.

"The Frightening", Laragh, Co.Wicklow, Oct 2023.
I can't be the only one who tends to see trees as characters, often with playful relationships with the surrounding trees. I got the impression of the tree on the right being spooked by the tree on the right ๐ป. It's forked limbs streched menacingly in the fog and the other tree trembling backwards.
Prints available in various sizes from the print shop on my website www.jonathanphelan.com.
Iris flower on aquarelle water colour paper, process Van D**e (24006).
Yet another iris flower on wet Van D**e, these flowers are hard to get to translate onto the paper, I was pretty happy with the subtle detail in the petals but still having a soft ethereal feel to the image. To me it almost feels submerged in the murkiest of water.

Iris flower on aquarelle water colour paper, process Van D**e. (24005).
I thought I'd kick off my return to posting on social media with some alternative processes seeing as that is what I have been creating most recently. A lot more alternative process images to follow, but I'll break up the posts with some landscape images, as that is probably what most people know me for on here.
Prints available on request, via message or www.jonathanphelan.com.

You might remember a recent reel I posted of me making this image, here is the result. I think it was worth the wet and cold numbed feet. I can't but returning to this location time and time again, making slight improvements on previous compositions. It truly is one of Irelands finest waterfalls.
"In Secret", laragh ,Co.Wicklow.
I had made an image of this birch and pines the evening before but the light levels meant I had to use a longer shutter speed leading to blur on the higher branches. Thankfully the next morning I got even better fog and was able to use a more appropriate shutter speed. I felt there was a clandestine vibe to the scene, so named it "In Secret".

Powerscourt Waterfall in Full Flow Autumn, Powerscourt, Co. Wicklow.
Prints available from www.jonathanphelan.com
Towards the end of October I made a visit to Powerscourt Waterfall after a few days of sustained rain. The second highest Waterfall in Ireland at 121 metres with ungodly amounts of water cascading down was nothing short of impressive. The immense amounts of water sent spray far into the surrounding areas, making it quite the challenge to keep the lens clear. For this image I tucked myself in amongst the rocks and concentrated on the impact of the falls on the rocks at its base with the autumnal landscape in the background.

Glendalough lower lake in autumnal fog, panorama, Glendalough, Co.Wicklow.
Prints available from www.jonathanphelan.com.
This was a bit of an unexpected image, I had gone up to Laragh with certain trees in mind to photograph, but they needed fog to work as compositions. Disappointed I ended up walking up towards the lakes and was presented with this beautiful scene to brighten my mood.
Cross Beach ICM (8020), County Mayo.
Another ICM from a recent visit to Mayo, slightly warmer tones in this one as the sunset blush reflected in the water.

Cross Beach ICM(8023), County Mayo.
There is something about the unpredictability of making an ICM image, when you get one that works, it hits. I love the pastel colours and gentle textures in this one.

This image was made on a quick stop over in the camper, unfortunately I didn't get to explore the area further. Just a quick composition from this spot, Sadie (dog) was kicking off because I was close to the edge and a load of people had turned up (Bank holiday crowds). I would say we ( ) made a swift exit, but we decided to take a "short" cut through the woods and ended up doing a lot of boggy bush whacking.
0.5s exposure, kase cpl slightly turned, focus stacked panorama (I desperately need a 16-35 ๐คฃ)
Marcescence in March Mist, Crone Woods County Wicklow. March 2022.
When I was printing images for markets I noticed this image I had discounted before. It didn't quite work in 3:2 aspect, but when I cropped it square it immediately transformed the image for me.
