Our students in Rice College celebrated Science week with energy and enthusiasm this week. Our Science teachers worked tirelessly to promote the wonder of Science in their teaching this week and placed particular emphasis on practical work, with lots of experiments taking place throughout the week! Students responded most positively to the extra effort the Science Department made this week and benefited greatly from all the exciting activities which brought Science to life for them. Well done to Teachers and Students alike for making it a very special and interesting week in Rice College!

Action from Post Primary Clare Cross Country Championships in Lees Road. Well done to the Rice College Athletics Team that performed brilliantly at these Clare Championships. We had outstanding performances from Kevin Noonan who finished 2nd in the Junior boys event. The junior boys team also captured a silver medal which included Kevin Noonan, Luke Donnelly, Seamus McGuire and Harry O’ Connor. Our senior boys won the gold medal in the team event and all 4 athletes finished in the top 6. Iarlaith McElroy finished in first place. Ben O’ Halloran second. Caleb Walsh 4th and Leo Johnson 6th. We also had excellent performances from Eric McMahon who finished 14th in the Minor boys. Hannah Lysczak 22nd overall in the Minor girls. Well done to the Minor girls team of Chloe McQuade, Caoilainn Farmer, Hannah Lysczak and Laoise Cunningham who finished 6th in the team event. Also our Junior girls team of Sheena Beirne, Maggie Power, Martha Walsh and Amira O’ Grady finished 5th in the Junior girl’s competition.

Our three TY classes headed off to Delphi on Wednesday morning and return today. They have had an absolute ball over the last two days at Delphi Adventure Centre. Their activities have included canoeing, high rope climbing and big runs. It’s nothing short of magical! See for yourself!

We had a lovely celebration of our first Lá Gaisce in Rice College this morning. Students wore their pins from their bronze Gaisce award achieved in TY last year and scones and tea were a lovely treat at 11 o’clock break!

Today, our Leaving Certs took part in their Ecology field trip. A stop in Galway Aquarium before we went to Grattan Beach in Salthill, Co. Galway. A great day had by all!

Thank you to Maura from @focusireland who came to our Transition Years today after they raised an incredible €2,338.28 from their sleep in and bucket collection. A special thank you to Ms. Power, Ms. Culligan, Mr. O’Driscoll and Mr. Malone who stayed with the students overnight in Rice College!

Today our Leaving Cert Geography class completed the fieldwork component of their course. It was a very productive and educational day. Thanks to Ms. Handley, Deidre Flynn, Mr. Cleary and a fantastic group of students for a great day.

Lough Derg

First Years
1st Year German class celebrated the European Day of Languages today, by learning how to say "Welcome" in the 8 different languages spoken by students in the class....English, German, French, Polish, Irish, Ukrainian, Persian and Lithuanian! They celebrated afterwards with a Schokocroissant and Orangensaft as a reward #thinklanguages

A cohort of fifth years set off this morning for a retreat in Lough Derg, with Ms.Ronan at the helm. First stop en route was feeding time in Ballindine! Wishing them all a wonderful two days of fun and reflection, prayer and friendship.

Well done to students Niall Melody, Shaun Kenny, Harry McEnery, Callum Hayes and Sean Crowe who represented our school at the Senior Boys Golf Competition at Ennis Golf Club yesterday. A special congratulations to Niall and Shaun in Leaving Cert who have taken part in this competition on behalf of Rice College over the last four years. Well done boys ⛳️👏🏻👏🏻
