One of the important stages to how we grow our microgreens is placing them in a blacked out tent where they stretch and become “leggy”. Thousands and thousands of bees foraging on Ivy bushes growing here in the ditches of the farm. Ivy is one of those rare plants that produces both vast amounts of pollen and nectar. Laying down the weed barrier for our Lavender field and trying to get the poly layer dialed in with our Mypex which is 120cm wide. This year we planted 2000 Rhubarb plants which we grew from seed. It’s a variety called Victoria and is absolutely. thriving. We are in the process of planting up 1 acre of Lavender to make both a productive space and a place of beauty. We want to bring people closer to nature and closer to the places where food is grown. We believe that by showing and educating people as to how their food is grown, they can then make more informed decisions about what they eat. Hippocrates wrote “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”. Lavender has been proven to have many medicinal benefits such as helping with insomnia, alopecia, anxiety, stress and postoperative pain. This year we planted 1000 Globe Artichoke plants as a crop for next year. This is a perennial plant will hopefully bring us successions of delicious Artichoke for years to come. Update on our Carrots which we seeded with the FarmDroid in mid-May. Mixed results overall but we will definitely still get a decent harvest from them. A few area’s we will work on for the our Autumn/Winter Carrots, is timing of the first weeding to not crowd out seedlings with stones, initial ground preparation with the stone burier to reduce the amount of stones and we’ve received new seeding wheels to have better seed spacing also.
