We are so delighted to share the news that the Business to Arts Community Foundation Ireland Creative Access Award 2024 was awarded to University College Cork (UCC) and Dance Cork Firkin Crane (DCFC) for Inclusive Dance Cork.

“Together, we are breaking down barriers, fostering creativity, and building a more inclusive arts community”, noted Yvonne Coughlan, Chair, Dance Cork Firkin Crane.
Inclusive Dance Cork, initiated by Dance Cork Firkin Crane is Ireland’s first university-accredited introductory micro-credentials in inclusive dance which celebrates inclusivity and accessibility in the arts. The accredited programme was developed in partnership with University College Cork with significant support from Suisha Inclusive Arts / Cope Foundation and Cork Education and Training Board.

“We are delighted that The Community Foundation Ireland and Business to Arts have recognised our work so far to support dancers of all abilities”, added Yvon Bonenfant, Head of Department of Theatre, UCC

For over two decades, the ArtMan Association has been pioneering a unique approach to dance and therapy. By creating inclusive spaces where individuals with and without disabilities can come together, they foster a sense of community, promote artistic expression, and challenge societal perceptions. Their mission is simple yet profound: to build a more inclusive world through the power of movement and creativity.

Their work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Lábán Rudolf Special Prize and a feature in Fidelio's Kult50. But their greatest reward is seeing the transformative impact of our programs on the lives of our participants. Through dance, they have empowered individuals, fostered community, and challenged societal norms.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Time and Place: 15th of September Sunday 11 am - 5 pm, Ballydehob Communty Hall, P81 FC89

The four have worked together in various formations, performances, and processes. There most recent work was a 3-year research program, where they formed mixed-ability artist-teacher pairs to conduct full-day workshops in public education institutions. They love to dance together, teach, and lead groups.

Currently, they are exploring the transition from improvisation to composition, and the concept of performative presence. They are investigating how this can be achieved in any community, group, or situation. This full-day workshop is organized around this theme.

So excited to be attending the Business to Arts Awards on the 9th September at the National concert hall, flying the flag for Inclusive Dance Cork and our much valued partnership with UCC. Nominated as finalists in the Creative Access award category.
