Today is the 1502nd anniversary of the birth of Patron Saint St Colmcille / St Columba in Donegal, 7th Dec, 521AD.
He founded religious community on Iona and is credited with spreading Christianity, language, arts & learning throughout Ireland, Scotland & mainland Europe.
St Colmcille is one of Ireland’s three patron saints. The other two are St Brigid and of course, St Patrick.
On his father's side, he was great-great-grandson of the famed Niall of the Nine Hostages – an Irish High King of the 5th century. The modern day Donegal village of Glencolmcille is named in his honour.
These are ruins near Falcarragh, not far from the missionary home of Vision Ireland. ♥️☘️🇮🇪
