ENA 400 Beautiful 1937 Lancia Aprilia with a racing past

Pictured here in the 1938 Rallye Of Monte Carlo raced by a famous Race Car Driver called Miss.V.M.Wilby (Miss Violet *Midge* Wilby) Leaving John Of Grothes o Groats in 1938 to compete in the 1938 Rallye of Monte Carlo under racing number 77 her Co.Pilot at this time is believed to be Miss Joan Brotchie

Violet Midge was a pioneer in Rallying in the 1930s she first took part in the 1932 RAC Rally in a Wolseley Hornet, She also raced the Scottish rally in the Wolseley in 32, after finishing sixth in the 37 Monte Carlo Rallye Coupe des Dames. Shortly after that she became heavily involved with Atlanta cars, as a patron, Company director and also a works driver, In 39 she also successfully drove an Atalanta at the Scottish Rally

ENA 400 is also documented in several other Rallys & can be found in W.Boddys Continental Sports Car Book* competing in the Pre War Welsh Rally from London Circa 1950.
This Lancia has not ever changed hands on the open market and was in the previous ownership for many decades

Kilkenny This car was used by a British Army Officer before surrendering to the Irish Free State in 1923 this car remained in Ireland until around 1964 before moving to a private collection in the UK where the car remained for 50 years before coming back via private sale to Ireland in 2014

IP 1047 original Co. Kilkenny number could be used in both Ireland and England as this car was registered Pre-Free State

Ariel 1926 5.00 HP Fast Touring Model D 497 cc Over Head Valve Frame Number P3661 Engine Number P3644

This impressive machine has enough sophistication to make riding staightforward and a joy, yet has the looks of an earlier machine.

Beautiful order, it has been running and driving perfect nice leather tool case. The Magneto was rebuilt in 2012 and the bike has done little work since. It comes with its Buff UK logbook which records owners back to 1934 in Handsworth Birmingham. The Logbook shows 5 previous keepers, the Buff logbook perhaps adding one more, but that is over a period of 94 years!

In 1925 Ariel boss Charles Sangster managed to contract two people that were to be very important for the Ariel successes of the years to come.

Val Page became Chief designer and Victor Mole was the new Sales Manager.
The company had some serious problems the existing range of White& Poppe side valve engined machines had become very outdated and the Ariel make really could use a more sporty image. Page, who had previous been successful with J*P, had only a few months to get a new line of machines ready for the 1925 Olympia Show.

He concentrated on the engines, the cycle parts would get an update one year later.
The new engines he designed a 557 cc side valve and a 497 cc overhead valve, the latter with bore x stroke dimensions of 81.8 x 95 mm gave the machines much more power and better looks. Victor Mole started a clever advertising campaign with the slogan for the 1926 range Ariel, the modern motor cycle.
