Ship for World Youth Programme
– Opportunity for Members 18-30 Years
This is a fantastic opportunity for learning, development, and travel along the coast of Japan with young people from selected countries. This is the first time Ireland has been invited to send a delegation on this month long trip to Japan with all costs covered. You will join young people from 10 other countries in Tokyo and travel on a ship to three ports of call - Kyoto, Hyogo and Kochi.
The deadline is 12th September 2023.
A project for next summer perhaps?
One of our scouters sharing the impacts of youth work
“One of our scout leaders is afraid of storms. She really doesn’t like thunder and lightning.
Last week, we took a group of young people camping in Switzerland and, of course, a storm came. And when a storm comes when you are camping, you are IN that storm.
That was the night when one of our young people really surprised me. On his own initiative, he went and sat with her, explaining that she could tell how far away the lightning was based on the time that elapsed between the flash and the sound. It really helped to calm her.
Sometimes teens can seem self-centred, because that’s just how it works at that age. But youth work gives them the chance to step outside of themselves, supporting and being kind to others. I often think about this: it showed me who he is when nobody's looking.”
