If the aliens didn’t land during this cloud formation this week I don’t think they ever will! What is with the skies the last week? Between this and the aurora it’s like the end of the world stuff! 🤯

13/05/2024

“Oh it’s a shame you didn’t get a shot of the Aurora over Killorglin”…hold my drink! 🤣 Nearly fainted with the adrenaline overload when I fired the drone up to see if the aurora was visible over the town. A night I will never forget. ✨

The aurora borealis over Rossbeigh beach last night. What an unbelievable night. Did you see them where you were?

Every single like, comment, share and interaction in general was so so appreciated. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year and all the best for 2024. ❤️

Anyone know the name of this lake in Killarney? I came across it by accident a while back. I’m calling this image Devils Punch Bowl regardless. The first thing that came to mind as soon as I seen the image on my screen. What do you think?

Happy 1st of December! HOW did that happen? 😰 Here’s one of my favourite shots from Killarney National Park. It also happens to be on the cover of my 2024 Calendar! Looking for a stocking filler or gift for someone? I’ve got you covered.😉 Available on my website - matthewmurphyphotography.com

Tomies Wood Killarney. I was immediately drawn to these leaning trees as soon as I stepped into the woods. Not even a minute from my car I was already taking photos. Every angle of the woods had something of interest. I just kept wandering until the fog had lifted and the atmosphere disappeared. It’s amazing how a little bit of fog can completely change a scene.

Storm Agnes at Slea Head. Almost had an asthma attack after this running up the hill to Dunmore head to get the sunset! Had to sit down to catch my breath and missed the best light! 🤦‍♂️ **le

The power of the sea! Taken on a very windy evening in Di**le. I almost didn’t get this shot as my batteries were nearly gone before I got to Dun Chaoin. I squeezed the last few percent out and I’m actually happy with the result! **le
Also for anyone interested my 2024 Calendar is now available on my website. I’ve had the calendars for weeks but I had no website so I’m very late this year. Anyway we are back up and running with the website so check it out if you want! [email protected]" rel="ugc" target="_blank">[email protected] 😉

The first sunset of the month did not disappoint.

Happy World Photography Day! 📷 Another one from Rome. Spent 90% of the time looking up at the mind blowing architecture.

The River Tiber with St. Peter’s Basilica in the background. Took this shot on a bridge across the way, resting my camera lens on a phone to prop it up. I almost didn’t take this photo as I didn’t think it would have turned out any good. So glad I did (with a little encouragement) it’s one of my favourite images from my trip!

The Ring of Kerry? Love these ringforts found around Kerry. It is said that there has been over 45,000 examples of ringforts found in Ireland.

May the 4th be with you! Happy Star Wars Day! ⚔️ Did you know that he final scene of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and a significant portion of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" were both filmed on Skellig Michael, the larger of the two Skellig Islands. The stunning natural landscape of Skellig Michael was transformed into the fictional planet Ahch-To, where Luke Skywalker is discovered in self-imposed exile. The island's rocky terrain and ancient stone structures added to the otherworldly feel of the films and captured the imaginations of Star Wars fans around the world.

Ross Castle is a historic tower house that was built in the late 15th century by the O'Donoghue Mór clan, a prominent Irish clan. The castle was originally constructed as a fortress to protect the clan and their lands from invading forces. In 1580, during the Desmond Rebellions, the castle was seized by the English Crown and became an important stronghold for English forces in Munster. In the following years, the castle was involved in several battles and sieges, including the Battle of Glenmalure in 1580 and the Nine Years' War in the late 16th century. The castle was eventually acquired by the MacCarthy Mór clan, who added additional buildings to the site and made further fortifications. Ross Castle remained in the hands of the MacCarthy Mór clan until the 17th century, when it was seized by Oliver Cromwell's forces during the Cromwellian Conquest of Ireland. After that, the castle fell into disrepair and was abandoned. It was later restored in the 19th century and is now a popular tourist attraction. 🏰

What an amazing day in Glencar. There’s a reason they call Kerry The Kingdom. 👑

Did you know that every year the Great Blasket Island hires two caretakers to help maintain the region during the busy summer period? There js no hot running water or electricity on the Island. That’s a bit of a dealbreaker for me 🤣 but how amazing would it be to wake up here everyday?

Glad to have got a few shots while the snow lasted! This is still one of my favourite places to photograph in any weather!
