Letterkenny & District Pipe Band
Letterkenny & District Pipe Band was formed in Letterkenny, Co Donegal in the year 2000.
With over 50 years in the pipe band circles, Mervyn Elvin set up the band in Co Donegal with the help of his wife and family. Their aim for the band was to bring in the youth, and pass on their knowledge to them. He achieved this by leading the band to Grade 4A World Championship glory in 2009, with no fewer than 9 playing members under 21 years of age. The band are now currently under Pipe Major

Well done to our younger group , Bláthín, Dominique and Davin. They started learning the chanter in October and have been practicing alot. They were able to join in playing with a few more senior players recently!

As part of our promotion of our classes which are commencing on Monday, we have also included a colouring competition for primary school pupils. Today we attended Illistrin NS to give a talk on the pipe band as well as encouraging more youth to get involved and join our classes commencing on 16th October. Cillian and Laoise, 2 of our band members, are pupils in the school and performed in front of their friends and fellow pupils.

Great day out for Ellie, Cillian and Niamh who took part in their first solo contest today at Ballynahinch, Co. Down. Well done to all the organisers of the event!

Now that 2023 season has come to an end, we would like to thank everyone for their kind comments and well wishes. It has been an enjoyable journey this year with so many of our members getting experience in competing for the first time.
We now look to 2024 and are recruiting for pipers, tenor drummers and snare drummers. Just get in touch with us if you wish to be part of our band and build to further improve.

Our young pipers, Cillian, Niamh & Ellie, took part in the Letterkenny Busking Festival on Saturday past.
Having only started learning less than a year and a half ago, they done fantastic, and took home the runners up prize 😁😁
