Plane & Simple Woodcraft
Plane & Simple Woodcraft makes handmade home decor, furniture and gifts in Murroe co.limerick.
And I'm back at it again👊
I took a small break from making after the Murroe Christmas Market. I had been ripping away most evenings since October so the week off was definitely needed but I've more orders so time to get off my 🍑 and get making.
Today I'm making up some wine & glass caddys and some magic floating wine holders🪄
There's a matching set from reclaimed teak and red oak, a solid walnut caddy and an Ash and walnut caddy.
I'd like to give a huge thank you to everyone who came out to support me today at the Murroe Christmas Market and a huge thank you the Billy for organising the event.
We're all set up at the Murroe Christmas Market 🎄 We'll be here till 4pm along with loads more fabulous crafts and bakes.
We'll be at Murroe Christmas Market Sunday between 12 and 4. Call in for some festive cheer while supporting Milford Care Centre and local crafts.
We'll have these stunning hardwood chopping boards and lots more if like me you need some last minute gifts🎄🎁
Hope to see you all tomorrow😁
New product🥳🥳
If you'd love to have this solid Ash pen holder to organise and accessories your desk then pop in to the Murroe Christmas Market on the 10th December.
As an added bonus they can also double as an electric tea light holder to add a calming soft glow to any space😍
This is a desk with quite a long history. It's made from boards of Douglas Fir from a tree that was felled and milled in in Murroe where it spend years as a table in their kitchens.
When it's time came to an end in the kitchen it was given a new lease of life as a large family dining table for 20+ years and now it lives on as a custom live edge desk in the same house❤
There's always something special about reusing wood and getting to be part of the pieces history.

I've been nominated by .goat to show a piece that I've created everyday for the next 10 days. Thanks .goat for the nomination and go check out his page if you haven't already. He's doing amazing things with the lathe.
Day 5, this is a bit of fun. Who doesn't love some Christmas crafts🤷♂️ These came about when I didn't have alot of free time to be in the workshop and just needed a nice little carefree project to keep me from being idle. The plus side was that they made cute little gifts for family and friends. They are brilliantly simple and i love it. No need for fancy lights or motors here🤯🤯
I'd like to nominate to show us 10 of their projects. They have some class pieces so it will definitely be one to follow.

Day 4, today's project are these table and benches made for a local cafe. There was a small 2 person table aswell as a 4 person table. I really do love the farmhouse style of painted legs and stained top, I think it looks crisp.
Definitely the best part of making these was hand planing the tapered legs to give them more of a sleek look.
I really enjoyed making these and I've learned loads especially in batch production. Which is a whole new way of thinking and approaching a project.
10/10 would build again🤙

Day 4, today's project is this fab dogs house. I've made 3 of these to date and they are getting quicker and easier to make everytime. I first decided to make one because the houses on sale in the pet shops were frankly too flimsy and way overpriced. These guys are double walled so theres no airflow apart from the door, which means once you turn the door away from a breeze it's pretty cosy.
The lid hinges up for easy access into the house and also has a latch to keep it closed in case of a strong wind.
Thankfully I had great help when I was building this one, Penny was eager to help as a weight incase it all shifted when I was screwing it together🤣🤣

Day 3, today's pieces are live edge coat hangers. I've done a couple of these guys but these are the last 2 that I done.
They are natural live edge coat racks with antique brass hangers. These were left unfinished by the client's request to preserve the raw natural look and feel to them.
I absolutely loved making these and I plan to make more in the near future. I had great fun figuring out how the keyhole hangers for mounting them work. Fairly straightforward is the answer if your wondering.

The Baby's Crib is done🥳
I'm delighted to get the crib finished. It's been a real labour of love and I've learned an awful lot. This was my first project starting with rough wood and it's so satisfying to turn all that raw materials into something that I could only have dreamed of making before.
Theres so many little details that I just love which is the joy of making it custom. I can put in these small things that take it to another level. A separate post will definitely follow soon on a few of these little details.
This has definitely been my most important project yet and I got it finished with only a few weeks to spare. Just waiting on the baby to arrive now👶
First full assembly🥳
Finally I get to assemble the crib and get a proper look at how its gonna look.
Now to take it all apart to prep for finish.
The two end panels got glued up today. I pre glued the dowels into the panels yesterday so today's glue up was nice and easy😎
Dry fitting the end panels to the legs before doing the glue up just incase🤷♂️ I'm very happy with how this is coming along🤗
!!!!Shoutout Sunday!!!!
Taking a quick break from making the crib to have a well earned cup of tea in my new favourite mug.
Huge thanks to for the personalized mug😍
The solid Ash floating lockers are finished and installed. They came out pretty crisp😎 I'm loving the sense of space they give floating while still having tons of space on top measuring in at 450mm x 450mm.
The drawer pull helps to enhance the minimal aesthetic.
My favourite part has to be the bowtie inlay. Aswell as looking great, it is very functional. It stabilizes the crack in the wood this along with the epoxy knot hole fill on top allows us to keep and enhance the natural characteristics of the wood.
It's new jig time!!
I've 100 holes to drill for dowels so a jig is the way to go to avoid marking every piece and get consistent holes. It won't win any beauty contests but it works everytime.
So nothing more to it but to stettle in for a evening of drilling with a great podcast for company
I got back out to the workshop this weekend and made some get progress I got all my panels ready for glue up despite the heat🥵
First step was to joint a straight and square edge on one side then rip the other side parallel on the table saw.
Then it was back to the no:7 plane to clean up the edges and finesse the fit between boards for a clean glue line. This was tedious work but oddly satisfying.
Just gotta get gluing and clamping next🤗
Just a simple wood appreciation post.
Got all the ash milled down from 30mm rough to 20mm for the floating lockers and I'm loving this grain pattern and colouration.
Getting excited to start on joinery next week😄
Been working on a few new ideas and prototypes for the last week.
This is a simple bathroom tray to decorate/organise your bathroom essential. Great way to add some texture and colour to your bathroom and gives a convenient place to put small items like jewellery.
The tray has a 60⁰ bevel all round and is stained in Golden Mahogany.
Delighted to get the toy chest with built in busy board assembled and delivered this weekend. The client opted to paint the chest themselves and what a fantastic job they did on it.
The toy chest has a reversible busy board as a front panel and very importantly a slow close hinge aswell as having the top of the sides recessed to protect little hands.
The first commission of 2022 has started. The client is looking for a toy chest with a hidden busy board. Today we got the dadoes cut into the legs to house the side panels and a small chamfer to break the edges.
