On this day in 2000 Longford U-16 Hurlers won the Connacht U-16 'C' Hurling title with victory over Mayo in Athleague. Longford went on to reach the All-Ireland 'C' Hurling Final, losing out to Armagh.
On this day in 1988 (29th July 1988) Longford hurlers won the NHL Division 4 title after beating Monaghan in the final replay in Breffni Park. This was the second NHL title for Longford after winning the first in 1984. The team was managed by PJ and Ignatius Fulham and Fintan Flanagan was team captain.

The 108th Longford SFC begins this week (106 completed, 1 abandoned). 12 senior clubs are split into Groups A & B (5 rounds each). Top 4 from each group advance to Quarter Finals. The opening game sees Killoe Young Emmets and Colmcille meet this Tuesday for the 22nd time in SFC since their first clash in 1952.

It is 40 years since the Longford hurlers won their first ever adult title by capturing the NHL Division 4, beating Louth 3-11 to 1-10 in the final at Rush in July 1984. It was Longford's third season in NHL having joined the league in 1982.
On this day in 1953 (12th July 1953) Longford won the Leinster Junior Football Championship title for the third time with victory over Kilkenny by 3-5 to 1-5 in the final in Portlaoise.
All SFL winners are now on the stats site including the Leader Cup (1936-2024) and it's SFL predecessor the League-Championship (1911-1935). We have also now corrected a decades-long error in the roll with 1941 now accurately reflecting Ardagh as winner.
