‘Ardagh Challenge’
10 mile and 5k and 1 mile Primary School fun run races, Saturday December 30th, 2023

The 10 mile is a road race and the 5K road race incorporates a fun run for joggers and walkers.

The primary school is a fun run for primary school children.
The 10 mile ‘Ardagh Challenge’ will start at 1pm. The 5K race will start at 1:15pm and the
Primary School mile will start at 1:30pm

Race Routes
The three races will start in the centre of Ardagh Village and finish in the centre of the village.

10 Mile ‘Ardagh Challenge’
This race will start at the village green in front of the post office. The finish line will be located beside the Ardagh Clock Tower and adjacent to the race HQ in the Ardagh Community Centre.

The 10 mile starts in the village centre and leave the village past the church, you turn around a cone after 1km and come back through the village. You then head towards the “challenge”, Ardagh Mountain (not a mountain) but a stiff hill that begins just after the 2 Mile mark and continues for ¾ of a mile rising approx. 78 meters. It has a couple of steep sections but once over it there is very fast downhill sections, and you can run a quick time as 2019 results prove. The first 10 finishers were under an hour with a couple of PB’s and a couple more very close to their PB. The next 6 mile after the hill are all fast. The last mile into the village is testing with a couple of shorter hills.
Water Stations
Water stations will be at mile 3 and mile 7. If you are not carrying your drink with you to the finish, please dispose of it close to the water station.
The 5K Road race and Fun Run
This race will start beside the post Office in the centre of the village and finish at the clock tower back in the village. 5K route on Strava http://www.strava.com/routes/2911945123998246118
Our 5K follows the same route as the 10 Mile to just after halfway where you turn right and then right again at 3.5k back towards the village. The 5k is fast with some good downhill section to 4K, the last 1km is the most challenging as you climb back to the finish in the village.

Venue HQ
Registrations and number collection will take place in the Ardagh Community Centre in the centre of the village and adjacent to the finish line from 11am. Registration will close at 12:30pm. There is a limited number of finisher medals and late day registrations may not receive a finisher medal. If race medals are sold out then the race organiser will offer entry at a reduced rate
Results, prize giving, and refreshments will be available in the community Centre. There will also be a First Aid Station in the Community Centre. Toilets will also be available in the Community Centre. Showers and changing facilities will be available after the race in the local GAA club which is a two-minute drive from the finish line.
