During the second lockdown when we were getting the website set up & doing some general cleaning around the place (couldn't do anything else really!!) we re-discovered this little gem.

On this day 48 years ago the late Vincent Senior officially opened our upstairs floor as a shoe department. Those who knew him, would know that he wasn't a man to do things by half measures so with there being no Facebook or the like in that day so he took out a two page spread in the morning edition of The Cork Examiner to officially launch it. There have been a couple of rejigs in the time since but it's still going strong as our jackets, suits & shoes floor.

It has been a busy couple days around town since re-opening… here’s hoping that it will continue for the next few weeks in the run up to Christmas and give businesses a chance to come back from the latest lockdown.

We’ve been adding items constantly to the website since going live & have finally got around to sorting out the delivery options for orders made online. To celebrate reopening & getting this up and running we are delighted to kick off our latest competition.

We are offering all of our online customers the chance to win back the price of their Christmas shop. All purchases over €50 (excluding any delivery charges) made before 3pm Monday December 21st will be entered into our draw. For every extra €10 spent above this an additional entry will be put into the hat for you – e.g. if a customer spends €60 their name will go into the hat twice, €70 three times etc. This includes customers who put items on hold by selecting ‘Manual Payment’ at checkout & then come into the shop to make the purchase.

A quick summary of the delivery options now available at checkout are as follows:

1. Click & Collect: includes option to pay in store. Orders will be held for 48 hours. Some customers have been making use of the personal shopping appointment option when coming in to collect their purchases 👉🏻 https://www.vincentdownes.ie/service-page/personal-shopping-appointment

2. Home Delivery: We will drop it to your door. Available to those within a 10k vicinity (or thereabouts) of Mallow. If you are this close to us, it doesn’t make sense to be paying shipping costs especially if you are buying something like a voucher. This is a means of avoiding this additional cost for those unable to come into Mallow to click & collect. Available up until December 21st only.

3. Registered Post (Express): Between 1 – 2 business days.

4. Registered Post (Standard): Between 1 – 5 business days.

Delighted to have been given the go ahead to reopen on Tuesday December 1st. Our opening hours over the Christmas period will be:

Monday to Saturday: 10am – 5pm
Sunday: 12pm – 5pm

Even though restrictions are easing, we appreciate not everyone will be comfortable or able to come into Mallow to pick up their few bits. To make it a bit easier for people, we are offering out of hours personal shopping appointments primarily for high risk customers or those taking care of high risk relatives who need to avoid people and come into the shop to pick something up. We will close the shop to other customers at this time but would ask, where possible, that patrons will continue to wear a face covering. You can book the appointment at the link below 👇🏻

Click the link, select the date you want to come in & this will offer the available time slots on that day. Choose your preferred time slot & give us an idea of what you are looking for, age of man buying for, preferred colours etc. We will have a number of options lined up based on this info ready to go for when you come in. Alternatively, you can call us on 086 126 3406 to make the booking for you.

Each appointment will be 30 minutes with a 15-minute buffer to allow us do a wipe down of surfaces & clean up before the next customer comes in. If the demand is there, we will make additional slots available over the coming weeks.

Just as an FYI - based on customer feedback we have added a new manual payment option at checkout for those uncomfortable with buying online or unsure about product colour / sizing etc. By selecting this option we will hold items for up to 48 hours at which point they will be re-released again for purchase if you decide not to buy. When current restrictions get lifted 🤞🏻 this will allow you to come into the shop & have a look at the item before deciding to purchase in-store or not.
