A freephone telephone number - 1800 702 651 - has been set up for vision impaired voters in respect of the Local Elections. By dialing 1800 702 651 voters can hear the details of the candidates in each Electoral Area who are contesting the Local Elections in Leitrim on 7th June 2024.
The ‘freephone’ facility may be used by vision impaired voters as often as they wish in the run-up to polling. They may also use their mobile phone in the polling station on polling day to access this information.
Vision impaired voters wishing to vote in secret should ask the Presiding Officer at their polling station to attach a temporary, removable template to their ballot paper. Raised numbering and braille on the template assists the voter in choosing their preferred candidates on the ballot paper. The template is removed once the ballot paper has been marked, and before it is inserted into the ballot box.
Vision impaired voters will also continue to have the option of marking their ballot papers with the assistance of a companion or the Presiding Officer at the polling station.
Finishing up the canvass this evening with big brother Diarmuid Mac Raghnaill. The count down is on to this day next week. Thanks to everyone who took the time to chat with me today.
